    Thing is there are very few good monks as they need some thought when being played to be 100% effective.

    Their damage certainly doesn't suffer for it if that is the intention. A good monk can easily top single target DPS - the keyword is "good". Actually finding such a good monk is rare (And I don't count myself amongst that number yet, when stuff gets hectic I often lose my rotations. This student has much to learn ;P )
