Well, yes, but this was originally drawn up for another tank friend who insisted on tanking in stupid places. Nothing is to scale, it was a super-quick-and-dirty sketch to help him get the stupid out.

As a BARD, the most optimal way even for Melee too is to have the tank pull him to the corner and tank him there. Tank doesn't have to move - melee and ranged can dps from behind the pillar and tail covers northern hemisphere. They can stay behind pillar and dps at his side and sometimes trigger a flank move to get the Tail swipe to delay damage on tank. And because #4 is the last pillar, always hiding behind that is safe because it won't disappear during the fight unless the dps is that bad.

This positioning can cause huge line of sight issues for ranged dps, meaning they have to hug the side wall just to be able to dps.

This is how I tell tanks or tanks I roll with do it. No LOS issues at all.

Did AK today with Mnk Blm Drg Sch. Monk tanked Ana, he was dead as second room AoE went off. Really tanking anywhere is fine, I've been to PTs where people just casually killed him in the middle of the room.

I often in parties using the same technique Amas showed. I find that position works best as you never have problems that the tanks goes out of line of sight. Some like to hug the pillar and then i have to move all the way to them to be able to heal. If the tank just goes in the corner move a little bit further back to the entrance then the tail swipe isnt a problem and dps can just stand on the side of the boss. Heck we all can stand there and never have to move unless we need to kill add or are the bomb.

Easiest far and away. Tail attacks should only ever occur when intentionally triggered, melees are already in cover for IC, no one eats Rotten Breath, ever (except the tank).
Yep, this is the way I've always done it and there's never any issues.

When first gargoyle spawns, you can let it fly close to the healer before jumping on it, it's not like it's dangerous letting it do that.

Have the tank move all the way towards the wall then, if range have LoS issues, it's only because the boss is in a bad position.

This is how me and my FC does it, I assume this is also the same as the very awesome paint example above there, lol.

No one ever needs to move from this spot, except when you get the purple line

The fight is easy no matter where you place the boss.... the other night for fun our tank kited and randomly changed position to put some difficulty into the fight and there was still 0 deaths. Point is, its not hard no matter where the tank puts the boss, so learn to adjust as if the tail to the middle is too hard to deal with, your in trouble for higher level content.
