There really is no crafting issues. The best gear shouldn't be able to be just bought off the AH. You should have to work for your gear which means doing end game raids. Crafting can help you make entry level gear to get started with raids which is good enough.
Youre right. They should come in the form of materials that are dropped from end game raids, which can be turned into better than mere dropped.
Concequently, the ilvl70 crafted gear currently questioned as to why it still requres retarded amounts of grinding also requires you run the same dungeons as the ilvl70 non-crafted gear. But for some reason this same dungeon content also allows you to earn tokens for ilv90 gear, which destroys it. It would be a more than fair addition if those same tokens could also be used to purchase mats to craft ilvl90 gear. Sounds fair and logical. It was also suggested that the just make the mats and/or gear untradeable. Then you and others will have no market fears.
And there are crafter issues, you just dont care about crafters or crafting, or else youd see them.

I basically have all the crafts to cap except 2 but both are close to cap. If you think crafting doesn't make money it does. I made around 5m so far selling base relic weapons. If there was no grind to getting mats to make lv70 crafted gear then people would skip a major part of the gear process, and not run dungeons if it can be just bought off the AH.
I still believe crafting is in a good place making entry level gear to get started with dungeons/raids.
Hi person who's only ever played WOW! How are you doing? Wanna know how crafting works in WOW(But I'm guessing you already know since it's been mind washed into your brain this is the only way crafting is allowed to work in a MMO)? Entry level raid/dungeon/PVP gear. Wanna guess how useful it is? Well, each craft gives like 40 stat points of a certain stat, different for every craft, so people level crafts for +80 free stats(its more than that now, this was WOTLK or CAT), and everything else it can make it completely useless 90% of the time! It has NO USE end game besides starter gear you use for less than a day max, yay!
Personally, I don't want crafts to be that useless, crafting is the ONLY unique feature in this game, and the the 2nd most fun I have, most being running hardmode primals and super hard bosses. I want this game to be unique, and crafting is a good place for it to show how it's different from other MMO's, we should be expanding on the fantastic crafting, not turning it into crap like WOW's and every WOW clones crafting.
Crafting having AF, it's own stats, a huge grind to make good gear, and lots of recipes at all levels shows it's INTENDED to be useful, not something you level in a day, and only use for free stat points. Crafting is also the only thing left taking advantage of the cross-class skill system and using it properly and in a fun way! Battle jobs don't use it properly at all anymore, it's super boring and everyone takes the same things and you barely need to level anything to max your cross-class skills on any job. Gathering classes get ZERO benefit from it(IIRC).
Why do people get so offended if someone can just buy something off the AH(for insane prices and super rare) that's equal to a raid piece? You do know if the raid gear item was just as grindy/rare, and as hard to get as the crafting piece, it wouldn't matter if you could just "buy it off the AH" right? I don't understand why it's so offensive if someone earned their piece of gear through CRAFTING or FARMING MONEY to get it instead of FARMING dungeons. What's the big deal?
If for example, ilvl90 gear required mats from coil, it would cost so much money, and be so rare that you'd rarely see anyone "Buying it", it'd actually be rarer than someone with DROPPED coil gear, so again I ask, why do you feel so offended if someone can buy/craft gear equal to your BOP dungeon drops? Do you feel like they're cheating the game by wanting to play as a crafter/gatherer/economist and not a battle job like you?
Well here's a fun tip: There's 10+ MMO's you can play that cater ONLY to battle jobs, how about we take the one single MMO with such deep, rich, well designed crafting and give crafters an end game to look forward to for once? That sound ok?
