So, any news about plans to implement an outfit system?

You know... A system where you can wear a piece of equipment on top of your current gear just for its appearance. For those who only know WoW, something like the transmog system.

I think many people out there are bummed out when they get a new piece of gear they don't like the looks of, but they have to change it because of the stats. And I also think many people would like to strut around using their AF sets, even after they upgrade it.

So, any news, anyone? does Yoshi-P or anyone from SE ever said anything on the matter?

Its been discussed/ "announced" that skins from previous Final Fantasy weapons can be attached to yours. How this will work and if/when its implemented has not been touched on to my knowledge.

Well, I didn't really mean weapons, but rather your ARMOR... chest piece, pants, gloves, boots... The things that make up your character's "clothing".

I believe they said that such a system is ready and could be put in 2.1, but they're not sure they want to. People have complained that this will make it hard to identify who is what in a party (which is kinda ridiculous since you can see the job symbol).
I hope they put this system in soon, I've spent entirely too long in some form of that dumb battleharness (they reused the model too many times).

Sorry, misunderstood your statement. However, I would think implementing weapon skins would open the door for armor skins. There is one example (kinda): The FFXIII FATE which will let you dress as lightning or snow as rewards. May or may not be what you're more or less looking for.

What? well, this is very simple, just make it so you can only use for outfit an item you COULD use as a real equipment. then it'd be no difference from how it'd be if said item were equipped...

I was really sad when I got that awesome lvl 20 green outfit, then I had to change it because I got a ridiculously good upgrade, but it looked like some brown pajamas =\

And again, I bet there'll be a lot of people who want to permanently look like they are in their AF suits, even after they upgrade from it... especially BLMs and WHMs, I guess.

Q: In a related question, will higher level race-specific gear be implemented?
A: We don’t have any plans for the start of A Realm Reborn, but we’ll definitely look into adding such gear later on if there’s enough demand.
Also, this may be a bit early to share, but there are plans for a vanity system called “katagami” (dress pattern) that allows you to adjust your appearance. Say your role is a tank, and you like wearing your artifact armor, but prefer the stats on your Darklight gear. In this case, you can change the appearance of the latter to be like the former. I’m not sure yet when this feature will be ready. It’ll depend on our progress

    Hey, Quesse, thanks a lot!

Here's to hoping they implement it like LOTRO (an "outfit" equipment layer on top of your normal equipment which you can drag gear to just like your normal equipment, and your appearance stay fixed to what's on your outfit layer, no matter what you're wearing underneath it - having the option to toggle said "outfit" equipment layer on and off), and not like WoW (in which you change each particular piece of gear's appearence, not YOUR appearance, requiring you to go to an NPC to change the appearance of each new piece of gear you acquire).
