This is why undercutting happens, everybody wants their money first so will undercut just to sell first. There is no way developers can fix this mentality until less people play and the market will correct itself.

I was undercutting a guy and he was doing it to me for a few days. I lost interest, put my price back up by 2k and the next day it had sold.

I hate people like you. If you just set them at the price everyone is selling at then the market would stabilize and everyone would be able to get fair value for hard work. Instead people like you cant wait 5 minutes for a item to sell and bottom the market out in a matter of hours. I think people should have to take a course in economics to play games like this, JUST SO THIS STOPS HAPPENING! Its bad enough with all the RMT messing with the market. But undercutting is a basic economic strategy. Look at Wal-Mart, they have the buying power to sell stuff absurdly cheap. For example Wal-Mart can buy say an apple @ 1 cent an apple but the mom-and-pop buys apples @ 5 cents per apple. For simplicity lets say Wal-Mart Sells @ 8 cents and mom-and-pop sells @ 6 cents. As a side note, Wal-Mart can still sell @ 4 cents and still make a profit. Now Wal-Mart will keep the price @ 8 cents and hope that you do not bring in the ad to price match (to maximize their profits). This would go into loss-leader marketing theory, but that is neither here nor there.

Oh btw, if a significant portion of the sellers banded together to set a "standard" price, in the real world its called "price fixing" and would be considered illegal due to the Sherman Anti-Trust Acts (yes my comment is snarky, but I've always wanted to use anti-trust laws in a comment)

You could always buy the goods that are listed severely undervalued. I do not see any reason why I should list at the same price as you. I undercut by 1gil if I feel the value is good or will put it at a point I feel is right. I would like to see the default value removed because I think people tend just click through.

I think the OP is being sarcastic regarding the undercutting, but makes a valid point on the ability to call retainers form multiple points. You go to any city and soon as you get to the merchant rows there is a huge spike in lag cause people are grinding from inventory and posting/undercutting the markets.

Pretty much a duplicate thread of wanting to buy smaller amounts out of larger stacks. In the end both will just result in constantly bottomed out prices and everything selling for 1 gil each.

Just say no to destroying the economy. If you can't be bothered to play the market you shouldn't expect any reward from it.
