Can black mages theoretically beat summoners?

In a non existent tank and spank fight, can black mages theoretically beat summoners DPS?

And in most fights in Coil, can black mages at least reach the level of DPS as summoners?

Any experienced black mage want to tell us how it is? Is movement as worse as in titan?

Black Mage have a great dps especially with Fire III, but its consume MP very fast.


idk about BLM vs SMN , but each class has its own preferences and actions so it won't be fair to say BLM stronger than SMN or the opposite.



When you face someone in PVP things like experience,gear, quick reaction make all the difference in the battle.

Both jobs are amazing in the right hand. Assuming equal gear and skills, BLM will most likely win the total damage battle the longer the fight last. Damage per second IMHO is not a good method to rank BLM do to the fact that BLM is a pure slow, high burst damage class. From pure experience in Coil (up tp turn 4) and asking many high end coil groups, BLM is king when it comes to total dmg done per turn.

Me? I do 650~ per normal fire 1 hit under astral fire 3, and around 450+ on ADS with magic res up. I only have 1 ilvl 90 drop from coil since I have the luck of half swollen frog in a snake mouth. Next week I should have relic +1, and yeah bards with relic +1 can't come near the total dmg I do on ADS while he have his stupid magic res up. SMN however, I can't really compare to yet since we don't have a damage meter that works for them. Nevertheless, I do believe they do some sick amount of damage.

Edit: One last note to add about BLM. RNG plays a big role in our DPS and total damage. On some boss fights, lady luck will French kiss us and activate Thundercloud and Fire starter multiple times one after another, when that happens and we are in the right gear under raging strike effect no job in FFXIV will even come close to the sick damage you just unleashed.

the answer is right now no.
Right now black mages beat monks and dragoons. Summoners and bards will still out DPS a BLM while bringing more useful utility to the group.

Using fire3 without its freecast proc is actually terrible for DPS.
