    I disagree with the topic- aesthetics and numerical factors should be unrelated in a multi-player game. Raid gears/NM gears are silly, though it would be cool if they drop awesome materials for gear building, so we could aesthetically choose to get the same stat bonuses etc for shabbier looking duds, if it so pleases us.

    I can agree with this. I think we could afford to compromise and go with costume slots, that way the people that want to show off their gear can and those that want to look modest or not mismatched can get their way as well. If I had any say in the matter, I would probably perma-"wear" a mercenary's chainmail with an extra piece here and there. Well, until we see the classic jobs enter the game, then I'd full time Red Mage AF.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    I dunno...every RPG with any online component has had some really great looking equipment drop from challenging enemies. Even Demon Souls to a certain extent.

    Hence why raid stuffs should be in material form. If you want a simple looking leather harness imbued with the power of Ifrit then it should be available as an upgrade to a more simplistic looking gear. But if the player wants their Ifrit gear to look flashy, then there should be a corresponding recipe (think Monster Hunter, except you can make "epic" gear look like beginning/midgame gear). This level of control empowers players to get more "into" their character. It's hard to enjoy playing a character who you think is aesthetically too much or too little.
