    There are literally no quests to get you to 50 after you hit level 44 or so. The quests that you DO get every few levels might get you 1/4 to 1/2 a level, but they aren't going to get you all the way. And the only other options you'd have is levequests, dungeons, or mob grinding. FATEs need to stay the way they are until Square actually gives us enough quests to get to 50. Right now they are not.

    Uh huh. See how far they take you. I think I got half an XP bar from those quests. And then there weren't any more until I could hit 46 for my Story quest. I did all those quests, and then I had nothing more until 49. I ended up grinding Levequests to finish out 45, then again to get to 47, then grinding Fates until 50 because I couldn't find any other quests before 49.

    Just going to point out that Lnc/Drg's playstyle doesn't really change at all at 50. Woo I get to add one more ability to a long chain of other abilities I already had. When did Lnc/drg's gameplay change at all? First time is when get Heavy Thrust, 2nd time is when get Disembowel. All are pre-50. And these are not drastic changes either, just putting up and maintaining damage a new damage buff.

    Pretty sure most other classes don't change up drastically at 50 either.

    As I see it everyone is fine with fates, if we didn't have the dead times between them, and if they scaled better with how many are in it. Or in other words, people seem to like leve's, which is fates but solo where you don't have others killing your mobs and you don't have to wait.

    FATEs are a fun idea, but they have a few severe flaws at the moment:
    - Unscaleable
    - Rewards based on "monster tag" and DPS
    - Doesn't need gear or skill with larger groups
    - Disproportionate risk vs. reward (unless you're like alone)

    Basically all equals to content that gives lots of rewards even with a large amount of participants in spite of not scaling properly. FATEs render other PvE content (outside main story quests) and the need to gear up almost obsolete as it stands.

    And like you said, there's not much need to gear up til you hit 50 and a lot of people will lay that on the groups they join. I had a white mage geared half in level 19 stuff join the other day. The BLM in the group was doing a great deal of curing and crowd control to make it work.

    From Yoshida: "For ARR, the level cap is going to be level 50 to start the game. We don't want players to have to spend a lot of time getting to level 50. The reason behind this is that we believe the game up to level 50 is basically your tutorial. The real game begins from level 50."

    There are a lot of changes and new content coming in 2.1. That's coming out this year. Until then, they're not likely to make any changes - but really this is not an unbearable amount of time.
