1.0 Ul'dah music is superior.

am I the only one who liked both soundtracks? T_T

We share the same opinion
ARR's music for Ul'dah is good but feels too magestic for a city. Granted the night music feels much better.
But the music from 1.0 makes me feel like I'm in a desert-type city and fits the 'jewel of the desert' theme Ul'dah has.

There are a lot of songs from 1.0 that are still in ARR.

If I recall, someone mentioned that the reason Uematsu's work was so shoddy was because all he was given was a bunch of pictures and little to no context. Which is why Ul'dah sounded like a tropical paradise instead of a city in the middle of a desert.Look again. Your favorite track(the Garuda battle theme) was actually written by Masayoshi Soken, who serves as 2.0's sound lead, as was a lot of 1.0's later stuff.
The reason Uematsu's stuff didn't stick with the game was because as great as some tracks were, they were an eclectic mess of poorly chosen instruments that rarely if ever fit the area or scene they were used in.
That said, I miss the Coerthas theme and battle theme.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Most of what I am hearing here is the music didnt match the theme. I listened to the soundtrack stand-alone and it stands up by itself as great music.
I never played 1.0 but I checked a few tracks and Nobuo's work seems to be really amazing!
I'd love to see a list of his work for ARR!
I can say however, I'm more than happy with the new ost! Coerthas Field Theme is one of my new favourites!

If there were issues with the 1.0 music, it is because they gave Uematsu absolutely nothing to work with. No concept art of the areas, no story basis, no character basis. They basically told him how many tracks they needed. That was it. Given that, I agree the music from ver. 1, though exceptional as a stand alone album, did not fit many of the areas.
