The dye and materia System as well as 2 piece armor...

My one major complaint about this game so far is with the dye and materia system. What exactly is the point of the Dye and Materia System?

Dye- It allows you to change the color of your gear
Materia- You can upgrade your gear's stats.

Ok that's great, but there is one Major problem....

At level 50 I have yet to find a piece of gear that will let me dye it. Also non of the Gear that drops in AK, Darklight, or AF2 has a materia socket.....

So is the dye system just something to please people pre level 50? And materia is just to make you think you'll be able to buff your gear at 50? Because at level 50 both the Dye System and Materia System are Non-Features.

What's the point in tier IV materia if you can't put it in anything you'll be wearing, why would their be a market for tier IV materia.

lvl 1-49 is so easy there is zero point to investing in tier IV materia or materia in general.

To me it feels like you could take both features out of the game and only level 1-49's would care...

We need gear with materia sockets. And we want to be able to DYE DL/AF2/AK gear.

    -Finally
2 Piece tank sets, like the DL tank set where the chest and helm is one piece and you can't hide the helmet... Whoever thought this up should be fired... I want to have head/chest/hands/legs/feet gear like every other class...

    --More on materia
Also none of the gear at Level 50 dropped from AK can be converted to materia. We have to farm the living crap out of AK as the only viable source of Myth Tomes pre binding coil, and all that gear is just getting wasted. Once everyone has it, it just rots in a chest. We can't sell it, we can't convert it, it's useless. So we sit there spirit bonding AK Gear (because it's good gear pre Darklight) and then can't convert it. If we could convert it we would do that, then roll on the new piece.... But nope...

The one positive side I can think of for this is that I buy level 49 crafted gear because I can convert that and I spirit bond bracers/neck/rings to make materia to make ends meet (coupled with occasional harvesting) so I find myself able to stay in the 150k+ gil range despite end game grinding for Darklight, but it sure would be nice if I could convert the gear that keeps dropping that no one needs/wants anymore.

Personally, to me, level 50 feels incomplete. Like most of the focus was on level 1-45, then a quick HM Primal set was made and one decent dungeon. I understand more content is coming in 2.1 but a hot patch to make AK gear convertible and adding Dye slots where possible sure would be appreciated.

Yea I'm kind of angry too.

Currently every single person of your same job is using the exact same things (given they had the time to grind it)...

There isn't any customization of stats, or anything.

Vanya gear is unbelievably expensive if you're a new player, and materia is the same way.

Why can't Darklight and Allagan, and AF2 pieces have materia slots?

I kind of understand why AF gear isn't dyable, but really, we should at least have slots in them, so that everyone isn't the exact carbon copy of each other.

Only crafted gear can be dyed and materia'd.

Because it would be too powerful.

Even with the ilvl70 giantsgall weapons, while they were inferior tot the primal weapons, you could stack huge amounts of your main stat by multi-melding making them FAR better than anything else. Now, each stat on an item has a cap so that's not much of a problem anymore, but you can still add a lot of stats (just not the same stat). So they still don't want it to be on the best items because it would be too good.

The rose gold accessories, which are ilvl70 and meldable (but not dyeable as there's nothing to dye really), are actually really good. but they're also insanely expensive b/c you need 9 peacock ores to make the rose gold ingot, and you can only get peacock ore by trading for them with tomestones (or buying ones that other people traded for and chose to sell)

    tl;dr it's for balance reasons.

(Note: a lot of people don't realize this but multimelding is still possible like in 1.0- The slots are always 100% success rate, but you can go beyond the number of slots on the item it just has a high fail rate)

Well dyeing will be more of a factor once we get vanity slots and even lv50's may not be displaying AF/Darklight all the time. Materia, yeah I dunno why it exists. You use it for your relic quest which feels like a forced reason because otherwise there would be no point in materia. At least for combat classes. Crafting gear can use materia, but then again that leads to the what's the point of crafting at 50 discussion.

I don't know why every piece of gear doesn't just have materia slots. Why have the system, but then block out anything decent from it?

The materia helps me in the 22-27 lev range with crafting and gathering and making stuff for the battle classes and dying is kindof a fun thing to do to change the look of a gear set. I make the main pieces of my gear and I'm having fun with it upping the control or perception and whatnot. /shrug

It is sure to be expanded upon in the future. We know for a fact more materia are coming, odds are there will be new gear to craft that is useful (Though, the accessories already are for most people- the catch there though is i've seen rose gold rings selling for up to 5 million with materia attached)

My point with the system isn't for pre 50's. It's utterly useless once you hit Level 50. And I'm not going to put materia in gear if I'm not 50 because I don't need to. e.g. my Lvl 22 paladin can tank anything up to level 22 without the need for materia, so why invest in it. Spending the time to invest in materia at level 22 would just slow me down in my triumph to get another class to 50 and would be wasted time. I define a waste of time as being any activity that requires effort that I do not derrive joy from. And putting materia in gear (finding a melder) isn't something I enjoy so I jsut don't.

However at 50... If I could materia my gear to help me get through TItan HM a little more easily, I would, and I would pay a melder 100's of K to do it.

No amount of gear gets you through titan HM. To get through that, you have to dodge attacks.

Incorrect, I dyed my Aetherial (Pink) gear just fine.
Actually, I'm not incorrect. Aetherial gear is crafted gear with random stat buffs added to it and the materia slots removed.

Materia and dye systems are both to customize crafted gear. Dropped gear cannot and should not be customizable. This is what the crafters wanted in 1.0.
