Gear level, the final nail in the games coffin.

On Balmung I have yet to seen any shout that asks for a specific gear level, it's mostly no requirement or "with gear check" and nothing else.
Then again I don't spend that much time in Revenant's Toll, but the times I've been there I haven't seen it.

I hope it stays like that to be honest, people need to realize that most content in FFXIV is hard only when people don't know or can't handle the fight, not because their gear is bad. A combination of both is of course much worse.

If a dude brings full AF with level 46 fist to CM, I would be upset because it looks like leeching...

If a dude brings mixture of Level 52-60 gears and GC weapon to titan I would not say the dude is gimp... There are some loudmouth idiots that say get better weapon or more DL piece... Seriously... having more STR or DEX won't win you in titan. It was funny to see those loudmouth idiots die first... lol

Seriously, know when a person is leeching and when person is trying to make progress... stop being jerks... gears don't make you elite...

Having low gear in both Garuda and more importantly titan will relate to low DPS, which ends up in death, so yes skill is important but so is gear.

If people want to do end game then they need to get in AK/CM like the rest of us and farm their gear.

People keep saying they're worried that "smelly elitist asses" will judge them on their gear and only gear. That's simply not true. Nobody gives a crap how geared you are if you stand in stuff all the time, can't heal or tank worth a crap, or are just spacy and have no idea wtf you're doing. Skill, raid awareness and over competency are always being judged by the rest of the group. If you're bad, you'll get replaced.

That being said, when somebody is making a group, and you (a total stranger they know nothing about), whispers them asking to go, what is the one and only thing they have to judge you by? They don't know you move out of the fire. They don't know you know how to heal, and they don't know how to tank. They have no idea what your dps is like.

People don't recruit based on skill because they do not know your skill, so the only semi reliable way to judge someone is by their gear. They can either take you based on your word alone, despite the crap gear, OR they can take someone who is geared sufficiently, and significantly up their chances of getting what they need to down the boss.

Hell I will add to the pile, first off im not elitist, im casual, because of time restrictions.

I agree with this dude, DC had gear lvl restrictions added for a reason, you walk in undergeared you get dusted. I've seen it happen over and over ..skill is great, but some thing's just require more power.

I'm not lvl 50 quite yet, not sure how difficult it'll really be for me to get through it all, but you can bet I have taken peoples advice in this thread, and will be ready when the time comes.

I've said it before, but I hope SE wait a couple of months before 'tuning' content so they can at least support the attitude of their paying customers, and not those that are going to stop at the end of the month.

I don't see them touching BCoB. It will be self-nerfed when crystal tower comes out, since the original order was supposed to be iLevel 60 - 70 - 80. Instead you are going from 60 to 80 with darklight to AF2. Crystal Tower is also getting a pre-nerf bat on it since they wanted to throw it into the DF. I don't know how hard it was before, but it will be easier now. Personally, I don't mind this. Release something easy for the casual raider and something hard for the hard core. I hope they continue this.

Also ChickensEvil: Just because someone isn't level 50 on here doesn't mean diddly, there are other mmos out there, and some of us are speaking from past experience with previous MMOs.

I can appreciate that, this isn't my first rodeo either. But the difference in this game from at least some of the others I have played, is their hard gear check mechanics. Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan all have a specific DPS requirement to them. You do not meet this, it is a one shot. You can carry lower level geared people through Ifrit, and to some extent Garuda, but certainly not Titan. Regardless of that, some content has "other" forms of gear checks. Titan for example if you do not have over 3k health, you will die. How do you get over 3k? You must have at least a full set of AK greens (this is a bit unfair toward your casters and healers since we just have a smaller health pool in general... but still).

All I was trying to imply, was that when they put in the gear check, it will be whatever their intended level for content was set at, not some elitist person suggesting you need full darklight and relic+1 to do titan (I'll give you a hint, one of those isn't even possible without doing titan in the first place...) and trust me, I have seen it posted in shout requiring exactly that.

Your post is a bit confusing. Are you trying to say full AF and a level 46 weapon in CM is leeching? Because, honestly, CM is made for that iLvl of gear.

If you're asking to get carried by other people who are geared enough for a specific duty, just form your own group.

The problem is this applies to the Duty Finder, which is not a party you design for yourself in any way, shape, or form. You are completely within your right to make your own group, however, the complaint is that the DF finds groups for you. Its not "your" party by any measurable means. (with the possible exception of making a group then using it as a filler, and even then your agreeing to take random people.)

The complaint is not about being under geared, but rather the concern that you have to be in very fine gear to complete a challenge and that skill and strategy will take a back seat.

Yet I still have people in my AK groups with level 44 GC greens or worse and one healer that had the nerve to queue up using a level 28 white staff.
I can't wait for vote-kick and gear score requirements.
