I think it's just the option to hide your own name that appears directly over your own head (just like in FF11).

I mean, you obviously know who your own character is, so having that name float above your own head is a little redundant.

Basically i want the area around my character to be free of any text or icons but the option to toggle these things on and off would be great. It's mostly just the name that gets in the way and is distracting.

Yes include HP bar too, its pointless because its at the bottom, (so no need for it twice). thats my opinion. The "Toggle Your Name" on/off.

I'm thinking just the name that is above my characters head. This should also apply for the icons, linkshell shild, repair, that are next to the name. However, these wouldn't be hidden to other players, just for my view. So I couldn't see my name and icons, but could see others, and they could see me.

HP bar is already toggle-able so just do the same thing with name. Actually it took me a while to understand what Bayohne was meaning with the HP bar because I never turned it on.

I would suggest that, yes. The HP bar and the hide-own-character name options should be unified as a single option, so that it does not interfere with the view of other targets. Also, it would be beneficial if we could scale up/down the size of our GUI elements at will. That way we can scale up the size of our party list, and our own HP bar in the UI. This would make the player's name/HP bar on the character itself redundant.

Please make them separate options. We should be able to turn off our name OR turn off the HP bar under our name. For example, I like having my name on. I like having HP bars on mobs. I don't like having an HP bar under my name.

Knowing your HP is ESSENTIAL INFORMATION but after playing for 200hrs the chances are I already know the name of my OWN character at this point that has been displayed in the middle of screen at all times.

I think they just want to turn off their own name as it's obvious what your own name is. It's superfluous visual real estate. HP bars are important, but honestly, every single part of the UI should be able to be toggled on/off or resized independently. There are some things, especially as a veteran XI player, that I don't need that take up a lot of space on the screen. Mini map is great, but if I don't want to see it, I can still play the game and use the main map to quickly see where I need to go. You definitely don't need to get rid of it but having the option to turn it on/off is a win-win for everyone.

Maybe someone wants to take a screen shot of a conversation but doesn't want their name/mini-map/HP/MP/TP/Current Rank/Current Level/4 useless mouse hot-keys that controller players will never use/Calendar/Send/Receive/ or Status effects shown. Why not? As long as you can turn them back on in the configuration menu the player should be given the option, especially veteran players who know what facets of the UI are important and which ones are not, so that they can adapt their visual experience to their own playstyle.

Or maybe they just want to temporarily disable the chat log in cutscenes that repeat the exact same thing that the characters are already saying in their dialogue. The player should be given that option. There's only so much visual space on the screen for some players and not having the ability to disable a lot of these things really clutters the screen.

When I first heard that the UI was going to be completely customizable in early pre-release developer interviews, this is what I had in mind. The current customization options available are severely limited in comparison to some very old MMOs out there i.e. Anarchy Online.

Not to hijack the thread but I think the concepts are related. At the very least, there should be a keyboard command that toggles your own name off as, after 2 hours of seeing it on the screen, and always seeing it in linkshell chat from that point on, I don't think you'll forget it anytime soon.

You could put it in as an option in the config menu or just apply as you did the /display head "on/off" option.

The following is what I have in mind.

You could also just take out the "/display" and put the "/" right before the part of the UI you wanted to toggle.

Also while we're at it, make the logical extension for the rest of your gear, not just the head in the following format too:

/display feet (on/off)
/display hands (on/off)
/display waist (on/off)
/display legs (on/off)
/display accessories (on/off) [Different ones for each slot]
