I basically agree OP, coming from other MMO's that seem to make the leveling experience not work, this limited questing then grind mentality is disheartening, i personally plan to get my White mage to 50 then make an alt, i cannot be bothered to fate/dungeon grind all the rest of the jobs. After the alt my time will have run out if nothings fixed i'll move on i think sadly.

I'm not a gold farmer, so i shouldn't be forced to play like one, the grind after the first job i wouldn't even call playing anyway, its more like repetitive work.

Though people haven't discussed/answered my other question, is it a good idea to make a new character for the purpose of leveling/questing other classes? Should I?

This is one of the few things about the game I will legitimately complain about: They need to make quests repeatable on alt/sub classes, there's no question about it. Why they didn't have this at release is actually baffling to me, as this should be a very standard feature of the game.

That gives people a choice. No, you don't have to do the quests, you can do fates/leves(which right now are chump-change in xp)/etc... but also NO you don't HAVE to do fates/leves/etc, you can do quests.

No leeching, No PL'ing, just 100% playing the game.

If you want to level the fastest way, it's going to be fates. Although that gets boring.
I'm the type of person that wants to instance grind. That's not as fast and only fast queue for a healer or tank.
I haven't really done any levequest either except for crafting professions because their xp sucks too.
If you really want to do the quests again then make an alt.

This is wrong, actually. It's a flat 50% increase. It doesn't change.

You aren't supposed to level your other classes at the same pace than your main class. It's something to do slowly over time, and without frustrating yourself over it.

Do a couple of leves and fates each day while taking advantage of the rested bonus (+100% exp after counting the bonus from having a higher level class) and, after you're done with it, work on your main class. DoL and DoH classes level faster tho.

EXP Parties really need to make it into this game. Right now, there are just no real acceptable grinding spots. I think there are a few sets of elite mobs, but for the most part, they are very limited.

Then we would know who the cramp players are before they reach 40

Don't forget about your hunting log. It gives a ton of experience.

May I suggest that additional quest lines be added and only unlocked when you start your 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc.) job. This would give added backstory/lore/etc. and needed quest exp to level the added job(s) without getting into a boring grind. Admittedly it DOES mean additional work for writers and devs, but if Yoshi's goal of having FFXIV last for 10 years, they WILL be needed to keep people busy and exploring.

End-game content cannot do it all. There needs to be a way to keep those that want to keep adding jobs busy without getting them bored. Yoshi and the devs would be smart not to ignore the lower levels while adding end-game content.

FFXIV seems to be based on multiple swings through the lower levels and keeping them fresh with new and surprising new content and quests would do much in making FFXIV different from other MMOs that just concentrate on adding end-game content
