So not taking gear from someone that actually needs it so that I can seal/materia it is good for the game and not being a dbag and letting people have stuff they need is bad... got it.

There is so much WoW community in this game it is scary.

I never played WoW but if Im the only Tank or Melee DPS in the party it seems like Im the only person that need that gear if its Tank gear I need it why should I pass or greed when I need? You would rather me spend gil on something that Im farming in a dungeon? When the only reason I joined the dungeon is for that said gear. I dont see it as being selfish. I joined to get gear to turn into Materia, its the only reason I joined the dungeon.

If I don't need/want it for something, I pass it. I've passed every item in dungeons before.

However, if I'm slowly grinding for my Quicktongue 3 materia so I don't have to pay 100K for my relic, then I'm going to need on my mage gear, because it takes a lot of spiritbonding to get the right materia. :P This is in the further dungeon, sure, but still. :P

Also, I will occasionally need an item in a lower dungeon for seals, and sometimes I just greed or pass it. :P

How? I turn in gear for seals then I turn around and use those seals for gear for my other characters or I use it for EXP boost for crafting and gathering. You'd be a dick to deny me the opportunity to get seals from a dungeon that doesn't normally grant seals.

and why do you need those seals more than the rest of your party?

see, this is what I was dreading with the blocking need when it's not the right class. now people start needing because they can instead of sticking to the good old rules of need/greed/pass.

if you really really really want something that is the definition of GREED

need is that you ACTUALLY need something.

I'll give you a real-life example so maybe you understand the difference:

you greed soda

Umm, only Job roles you are playing at the time can need on an item.....changing roles during a loot roll doesn't change it ethier.

I find it hillarious people are talking about making the gear into materia when he is talking about the green drops in WP. Which are non convertable. If theres 2 BLM in the party and the one with a Relic rolls on the darklight weapon over the one with the level 44 GC weapon he is being an ass.

I don't know if I understand this argument. If you can't hit need, but I can, then why am I the one being selfish if I hit it? If you are saying that you can hit need and so can I, but you actually need the equipment more because I already have better, then yes in that situation I agree that I should be willing to hit pass. But if you go into a dungeon and just expect people to know what you need/want, then you need to work on your communication. I try and be courteous. If I have good gear and am with another DoM I will usually hit greed instead of need. If someone asks "can you wait to roll on magic items till I check because I need better gear" then I wait, and will hit pass if something they need shows up. That happened to me just yesterday. Someone asked "can you please pass on earrings?" and I said "okay!" and hit pass.

So unless you are hitting this situation and people are flat out refusing, I don't know where you are coming from.

So basically, people are saying that people who Greed on an item they need are a**holes simply because what they need it for isn't "as important" as what you need it for? Who's the a**hole here, again?

If you need something, whatever, go need it. I'm not telling people to not need on anything, but just have some damn consideration.
But I've run into so many people who need on something that aren't direct upgrades. Now I'm not saying to only need on something that are upgrades, because I do understand that higher levels need it for materia or what have you.

But all I'm asking is for a little but of consideration before people hit "Need". There are 2 BRDs in a group, one 50 and the other 40. The 50 BRD is wearing high level appropriate gear while the lvl 40 BRD is still wearing vendor bought gear. A nice upgrade drops from a boss and the level 50 BRD wins it.
Tell me. Is that really fair? Yeah, it is. When speaking strictly within the mechanics of the game. But maybe just think about how other people feel to lose such a great upgrade to another class rolling on something 10 levels lower.
