I like your thinking Tryst. I was main crafter, so I didn't really have much to do at the time (not much content then) so really that's what I meant by slaving away (was all I really did after a time). Not such a bad viewpoint though. ^^I kinda agree with you. But, I'm coming to see the Luminary tools as something you eventually end up with, showing how much crafting you've done. Not something you sit and specifically craft to get.
Did that make sense?
Like instead of slaving away at crafting so many recipes of each level, after crafting in the game for a while, you find that you've done enouhg crafting to earn the luminary tool. Something to show off how much you've contributed to yourself and others with your craft. Showing that you're not just level 50, but experienced at it as well.

Yeah I'm pretty sure no one is suppose to work for them, they're just there to show you've played a long time and crafted a LOT over that period of time, and it's just kind of nod to you that says.. hey, you're cool!
Inq: you seem nice

I would be perfectly fine with them having the same stats so long as they had their own graphic like the lvl50 quest tools.
What they could simply do, like with most achievment items is maybe just add "spirit bonding +1" to the luminary tools to give them some perk to having them, allowing players to create craft/control/CP materia at a quicker pace since they are necessary to have if you want to craft any of the star 2 synths.
Yeah, but that just sort of makes it an optional grind. Really, you'd only do it for the same reason anyone strives to do achievements, except this one (in essence) gives you a vanity reward. It's sort of just like why not many question why people go to such great lengths just for a mount or pet. Something to show for it, I guess lol.
And yeah, that user you quoted summed it up nicely.

I thought they were more of a status tool, you know just to say yeah I did that. Let be fair it isn't exactly hard to get, it is just time consuming so I don't think it should be the be all, end all of crafting tool.

I just realized that you used the term 'slave away'
I hope you didn't take my post to be mocking you in any way, I started writing it (at work) and got distracted, and then came back a few minutes later to finish my thought. So I didn't remember your original wording. It was truly just my thoughts on it, because I did spend some time thinking about going for the luminaries before 1.0 shut down.
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.
Cash shop in, TrystWildkey out.
The luminary tools are cosmetic achievements that you can use to state "Yeah, I went and did that~"
They should not have to be necessary in order to craft in endgame. Overruled.

You were clearly whining that your Luminary Tool didn't confer any special bonuses, hence, the special snowflake mention.
You crafted a lot in v1, congrats. You got a Luminary tool.
People that craft a lot on ARR? Congrats, they get the same tool you do. It's just a status symbol. It doesn't need anything else to skew what their design intention was.
