a "Tomestone" is a stone used to help flatten unrolled Tomes. It is essentially a paperweight. You know when you see a period film and someone brings in a rolled up map and they roll it out on the table? They almost always put a stone on the top and the bottom to hold the paper open. Bam Tomestones.
Guess what. You are raiding for Paperweights. Good job.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Don't feel bad. I don't know if it's a translation thing, but tomestones is pretty dumb and isn't part of the English vocabulary.

Not being near the end-game stuff yet, I was afraid that I would be collecting both tomestones and tombstones. Took a while for me to figure out they were the same thing.
By the way, while tomestones is not a real word, tome is:
tome - noun
1.
a book, especially a very heavy, large, or learned book.
2.
a volume forming a part of a larger work.
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.
Cash shop in, TrystWildkey out.

I am pretty sure the intent is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a tome stone, where a tome is a volume in a larger work. That is why they are philosophy/mythology. So a stone, as in a stone writing tablet.. So yeah. Not tombs.
But I figured most people typing tombstone were just making a typo, and that isn't worth getting worked up over given how many typos, grammatical errors, and especially punctuation errors, that I make.![]()
