If you are a first time MMO player, NEWS FLASH: Maintenance happens so they can KEEP THE GAME RUNNING. I'd rather them do maintenance then let's say, a game like RIFT who rarely fixes anything for months and months and months at a time.

They are shutting the game down here during this time frame because they don't have technicians over here working on the game. They are doing things in their time zone during their business hours because, strike me down, they are in JAPAN.

The problem is, so do the devs, apparently. So we end up with the same screw ups that people should have learned from in the past.

You all seem to forget what WoW was like when it launched.......maintenance that was only to take 4 to 6 hours could take upto 20 hours......que times weren't measured in minutes, but in hours.

We seem to get notification in advance from SE (measured in hours)......WoW at launch you might get a 5 mins notice mid raid

Stop the belly aching and count your blessings. Things aren't perfect but they could easily be worse

Hey, guess what. WoW was released in 2004. We are in 2013/almost 14. A company should have the common sense to do maintenance on an NA server when the majority of the players are offline and sleeping. And our data center is on Ontario or something of the sort, not over in JP. So yes, they have staff over here capable of doing that. WoW did NOT take down international servers the same time they took ours down btw. All MMO's have seperate downtimes for the different regions. Not to mention. Why were there 3 maintenances done this week. AND now we have ANOTHER maintenance a few hours after the last. This is ridiculous. With all the problems they had at launcha nd now the consecutive down times, do they really expect this to keep peopel around? They have other games that are up and running fine, even games that launched recently like Tera not that long ago and didn't have near as much downtime to compete with and that game is even free now. Not to mention the amount of people not being able to subscribe to the game at all right now and are unable to play. What was SE's response to that? "At thsi point there is nothign we can do about it". You stay classy SE

If you don't have time for an MMO, there's always the option to not pay for it. I haven't heard of SE hiring gunmen to force people to play, yet.

Here's the thing though, WoW was shut down on the same day, every week. I feel like FFXIV is randomly shut down a few times a week. Maybe its just my busy schedule, but I feel like it's down a lot. and never at the same times. If they would schedule a 5-10 hr maintenance 1 time a week, same time every week, to fix everything and make sure its fixed, I don't think there'd be very many complaints.

Aion AND Tera, both games that came from that side of the world, had seperate downtimes different from that of their over seas versions. So, what you're trying to tell me, is that SE has LESS money to hire people on this side of the world than the producers of such games as Aion and Tera? Because that in itself is making me literally lol

No.....WoW is now done once a week....it could go down suddenly at launch, you would log into get a message that the servers would be down for 4 hours, come back 7hrs later and the servers were still down without an eta on when they'd be back up.

Their employees are probably working on low income trying to get this game to be successful, because remember in Japan, they dishonored their fans and SquareEnix and that is way more important then feeding their family. And if you think "omg well so many ppl bought the game teehee" you forget to factor in: Cost of money to RUN the business (all expenses like electricity and everything else including paying their employees), server fees (this is really pricey if you think about it), their entire staff, etc.

So cool your freakin jets. Hopefully after people start paying their subscription fees, this will slowly dwindle down to being more organized. I think for working with not much to make something that's less buggy then 99% of the games on the market on first release, they are doing pretty well.
