    A week ago I felt that crafting was pointless as-well. Till I leveled one; went from 2 mil to 3 mil all the while blowing Gil on the market buying mats to level it. Crafting+marketing will net you millions easily on non-legacy servers, and probably 10s of millions on legacy servers.

    i need to be on ur server lol. I buy mats and make HQ mats and sell them up intil this week it was decent gil made about 300k in a week. now im struggling to sell anything >.<

    usually i don't go to the market when i need money, i go do a leve. i'm level 29 weaver i think but i will do the level 10 or level 15 leves because i need money not EXP and the diff in money between 10 and 20 is small but the lvl 10 leves need easier to get materials and getting HQ is guaranteed. so do 3 or 4 of those and get a few k in gil.
    i haven't found anything really to sell on the MB for good profit, i'm also too impatient to wait....

    I suspect that Yoshi and co may INTEND for 100gil to be significant in value instead of letting inflation let a million be worthless (as it has in other games).

    In that goal, they are kinda succeeding right now, despite the shortcomings in the design (ie: Repairs costs make 100gil insignificant).

    This game keeps a certain crafting tradition from FFXI, that almost no other MMO has, that defines the craft. HQ results. At early levels, they only give small advantages. But as the levels go up (particularly the level 50 stuff), the benefits are significant. We're still early in the games life, and as I hinted at, many people don't understand what it is you should be crafting (or looking for as a consumer).

    NQ items are going to be lackluster. In some cases, expect them to end up selling for less than the mat cost, as someone pointed out. Crafting in XI is a gamble, but the potential HQ result makes it worthwhile for some people to risk. The same tradition is likely to hold up in XIV. Plus, I'm fairly certain this isn't the end of the road for future updates... I'm willing to bet we'll see more things be introduced.
