    Can't get above 8 FPS on a Lenovo y580

    Hello to all.

I just got the game today and downloaded it. The game detected my settings and put me at High (Laptop) settings. So I go through the character creator and all, get into the game and BAM. It's slow as molasses. I go in to check the FPS rate, it's 8. Bounces from 5 to 9. Out of 60. I go and lower the settings to as low as they can get...

    12 FPS.

Something must be buggy. Or off. Or something. But it's ticking me off. Here are my specs.

    Lenovo Y580
    8GB Ram
    Nvidia GeoForce GTX 660M
    Windows 7
    Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30 GHz

    More info - http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops...html#techspecs
It's not all factory specs but nothing is lower. I can provide more specs if someone can direct me on what. I automatically updated my Nvidia drivers through Windows, but it said everything was up to date.

My computer has 2 graphics cards, but I made sure to make sure that the computer is choosing the Nvidia Card to run FFXIV.

sounds like you are still running on the CPU's on-die graphics (Intel HD Graphics).

Need to figure out how to set it to run on the nVidia.

If you set it in Windows, double check the settings in game. If you only set it in the game's graphics settings, double check how it is set up in Windows.

There may be a way to disable Intel completely in your BIOS as well.

You cannot disable onboard graphics due to the integration-ness of Intel HD Graphics and nVidia Optimus.

You can use nVidia control panel to configure the application to use the appropriate GPU: http://www.howtogeek.com/136123/htg-...vidia-optimus/

Well, I guess it was that simple. I had my graphics card on auto switch. It's supposed to detect what programs are running and choose based on that. Because FFXIV is new though, the computer wasn't switching and was indeed using the crappy intergrated Graphics Card. I put the whole computer to use the Nvidia card exclusively... and now it runs between 30 and 60 FPS. (Swapping between Auto Select and Nvidia exclusively is as easy as right clicking on my desktop. )

It only hit 60 once actually, but I can fix that by just tweaking with the settings. I hope that my laptop can run everything at max (I already have a cooling fan for it) but at least I can turn around in-game and not have any problems. Thank you everyone for the help.

Check your Character Settings > Graphics. There is a setting to limit FPS - none, 60 or 30.

It appears to be design specific. Some have figured out a way to disable it at the hardware or BIOS level. Intel HD is not even detected on my ASUS with an i7... only thing showing is nVidia.

The ability to disable the Intel HD Graphics at BIOS level is really depending on the manufacturers. The link of Alienware (or gaming laptops) is they can be disabled completely via BIOS, but the general non-gaming laptops would not have such option. So the only and recommended option is to change the nVidia Control Panel setting to use High-Performance Discrete mode in Global, or fine tune for per-application.

actually you can.. Theres 2 ways to do this.. One if your laptop has the bios config as a application or 2 reboot to efi bios from windows 8... You can turn it off there.
