Have MMO players lost their way?

Too often lately I hear people saying that they skip content purely because they don't like the rewards for clearing it.

What happened to the adventure? The challenge of clearing that boss, just for the satisfaction of beating it?

No gear you need from that guy? F him never gonna do it.

Helping out these people by doing quests and experiencing other stories? Nope fates are a faster way to 50, sucks to be them.

    Seriously, what happened?
I didn't realize it was a crime to do the content that you like and skip the content that you don't

I never understood this argument in music or art and i sure don't get it for video games either. Why do people seem to think that something has to be niche for it to be great and everything that is "mainstream" "sellout" is average?
Because to make it mainstream and try to grab every type of gamer, you need to compromise the content.

It's like when you compromise with another person. Neither get exactly what they want, but both walk away thinking that at least they got something.

EDIT: So neither think it's an awesome deal, but a good/decent one.

Give me the feeling of adventure and excitement in doing ANY dungeon and I am game, but this game doesn't do that. It is a world of teleporting to very bland and easy (pre-50) instances where cap is what matters and with no reason to explore if you are lvl 50 because there is nothing out there (story was good though!). It is all about the game if you ask me, I would love to do the things you talk about but you would have to make a completely different game in order for me to enjoy playing it like that. *Crossing fingers that EQN delivers just that*

The world is becoming dumb, people have no imagination, and play video games like they're a hard drug. Blame the public education system and over population.

Yes exactly. Pretty much my views on how most AAA game companies operate. Said it better than I could.
