It is known. The Oceanic community has decided on the unoffical oceanic servers.
NA Server - Behemoth, JP Server Tonberry & Masamune(Legacy)
From checking the official posts, Behemoth is locked out from character creation. Is there a backup or secondary 'Unofficial' oceanic server?
The true measure of a warrior is NOT how many times he gets knocked down, but how many times he gets back up again!
I am unaware of any "backup" oceanic NA server, as majority of the community decided to roll with the JP servers due to latency issues, but I didn't want to have to deal with always using the translation thingies when I play the JP server, so I just stuck with Behemoth. (And there are still alot of players here at oceanic prime time.) Yes, I know Behemoth is hell to get into, took me 3 weeks, but it's well worth it.
Tiamat is 2nd unofficial server and it's currently locked for character creation. Usually it's locked during peak hour

As noted above Tonberry was the first choice JP server for Oceanic - we have a lot of FCs there.
When transfers open up and allow transfers to any of the suggested servers, i might hop on a bird over there.
I haven't even been able to buy the damn game yet, since digital d/l is out and no stores seem to have any stock of the physical game. Guess I'll have to order by mail and wait for it to arrive. THEN hope the server I want is open for character creation by then. Never had a game be so hard to get ahold of weeks after the launch.

Gotta highlight this. Please note though that Ultima server is a JP server so I'm not sure how it'll go with your connection latency but there is a lot of English-speaking players in that server. To give you better idea, you can visit this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...nies-on-Ultima.
Uhg....Behemoth was open when I started character creation, but closed when I finished. /tableflip
