I just did this as 40 SMN, take out the wyvern as FAST as you can, it is by no means impossible to kill, so do not listen to those who say that, it goes down very fast. I failed every time until I did this, it's damage is insane, so for those having trouble keeping Drillemont alive, there is your solution...I did this while kiting the dragon since he would not leave me alone, luckily I had Titan who kindly tanked the wyvern for me.

I remember doing this boss, died a few times but learned where the adds spawned and got them before they agroed the archer and healer. At the end I ended up kiting like a little girl throwing bio and ruin 2 and occasionally curing myself while the Npcs and my summon ran after it slowly chipping away. In the end I got the Npcs in the centre and ran around in circles so atleast they did minimal amounts of running after it.

I don't remember what level i was when i completed this but as a Dragoon i found it to be one of the easiest. (hell i found that stupid siren quest more difficult until i realised that at X spot those balls wont hit you)

But then I was wearing full scale mail gear (lvl38 stuff) and a green 39 weapon (twin adder) and tanked this beyond easily. Anytime i hit trouble pop marauder defence + convert %dmg to hp (being a dragoon i had to level marauder) cycle that with flurry and a potion or combine all my attack buffs with the single attack heal.

Though just as i finished one of the knights did die, but that was because i realised i didn't need to kill all the adds till the last one was a couple shots from dead anyway.

However when i was doing it remember thinking it would be a bitch for a caster, anyone else doesn't have an excuse though.

i had no issues doing thing on bard, but i guess the distance helps

I did it on MNK so distance and kiting isn't the only way to win here. I had brayflox's Infantry set and level 39 GC weapon on at the time. Maybe a few accessories from Cutter's Cry. I just kept the archer alive by aggroing and killing the 3 dragons early then kill the wyvern as well facing it away from the healer. He goes down fast.

I sleep heal and attack when I can the NPCs still die before he does.
Now he dies just as duty failed pops up.

Just did it with 40 conjurer, stood there and spammed stone and healed myself a few times.

Conjurer / whm actually has some pretty powerfull solo combat abilities. I had no trouble with this one. Hit him with heavy first, spammed a few stone II, knocked him back with fluid aura, rinse and repeat.

Wow, its absolutely an annoying fight that needs to have some work done, Ive seen this kind of thing on other duty's where you must keep an NPC alive, which really makes no sense since they seem to be more squishy then my BLM, or they stand in the middle of AOE attacks, seriously SE improve the companion AI in this game or further test the different methods and reactions to the NPC's during these combat missions. It seems like the games logic was slapped together on the duty quests, or better yet let us bring a friend into the dutys to replace one of the useless AI companions.

Update: Ok after the NPC's dying 3 times and failing the duty I found a method that should work,
-First of all move to the cliff area where the first set of mobs drop down from, as soon as your able to cast sleep on them all and pick them down one at a time as fast as possible.
-Next attack the main enemy until he transforms into a dragon.
- Cast Freeze on him just as he turns into a dragon so he now has the slow debuff.
- Kite him AWAY from the NPC's as far as possible, lead him around and when he turns his attention away from you hit him with a few fireballs....do not use swiftcast! And make sure the dumb archer isn't near him cause he will stand in the middle of his AOE attacks.
- The entire time keep an eye on the area where the wyvern comes from and when you see him starting to make his way to the area cast swiftcast and sleep him! Swiftcast is saved for this because the big dragon will constantly attack you.
-Continue to Kite the dragon around the area and ensuring he doesn't stand in place around any of the NPC cause the AI is as stupid as they come and the tank is horrible at holding the big dragons hate with a BLM casting spells on it.
- Keep an eye on the wyvern and when you think its going to wake up soon cast sleep on it again.
-Continue to kite around the big dragon until another add is brought onto the field, another serpant.
-Sleep the serpent as soon as it is within range cause the archer is a moron and will run right into its path and will spam an AOE, which if the serpent is able to join the main group the archer will continue to AOE which will cause the wyvern to wake from sleep.
-Continue to kite the big dragon around allowing the NPC to attack it while tossing a few attacks of your own keeping in mine to cast a sleep on the other two enemies every so often.
-And done, the big dragon will die and then you are free to pick off the adds.

As I said before the only reason this fight is difficult is because of the horrible AI during the Dutys, In all honesty if I could just kill the enemies without worrying about the NPC's this wouldn't be nearly as difficult, but the tedious methods that need to be used just seems to suck the fun out of playing a really enjoyable class.

Having failed a couple of times to do this a SMN I had a go on SCH, and it was a cakewalk. Eos pet, threw Ruin II at Guillaime a bit, then Ruin II/kited one of the 2 wyverns while the archer dealt with the other. Guillaime went dragonform, guess what more Ruin IIs until the wyverns turned up, kited the level 39 one killing it with... Ruin II, liberal use of Energy Drain to keep mp up. Once that wyvern was down, focused on Guillaime until he died from Ruin II. Eos made sure I was never in danger, kept out of the wyvern's weaponskill arcs, and used one spell a lot.

Iskaral none of us will miss you I doubt even square will miss a whiny baby like you. Enjoy life cause if you can't handle something this easy your life is going to be full of disappointment.
