Why would I ever bring a DRG to a party?

They have the weakest DPS, and their only utility is a piercing debuff that buffs their and archer damage, but not enough to make up for their lower DPS.

MNK has the same amount of stuns, but also has Mantra and more DPS.
BRD has songs, and more dps
SMN has instant res and more dps
BLM has apoc, CC, aoe, and more dps.

Other than a lack of anyone else, why would I bring a dragoon?

According to my calculations, Dragoons have less-than-10%-less DPS than Monks, and they bring the bonus of amping BRD DPS by roughly 10-15%. Not to mention the obvious with MNKs requiring nearly 20 seconds of ramp-up time (negated once per 4 minutes).

    Edit:

    Oh sup Merix. Trolling much?

    Edit2:

Also BRDs should do roughly equal DPS than Dragoons until you add the 57 cooldowns they get access to.

The biggest difference is that BRDs have nearly no rampup time. Combined with the lack of positional requirements or disengage, and the braindead-easy priority/rotation, it's no surprise BRDs are ahead.

Because Dragoon's Disembowel debuff applies to Bard attacks so it'll up your DPS too.

Because it's one of only two classes with the single target limit break which is useful on bosses.

Because while MNK has slightly higher DPS if fighting a training dummy, DRG are harder to "mess up" in actual fights so in most real word fights, DRG will parse higher than MNKs.

Because the number of stuns may be equal, but you cannot compare to Leg Sweep's 20 second cooldown. That means it's up on demand at almost any time you'll need it. Steel Peak is 3x (edit: 2x) as long a cooldown and Shoulder Tackle has a distance requirement of having to be beyond 10 yalms from target, so it's not on demand, unless you think running out 10 yalms and then hitting stun is on demand. Also it's 90 second cooldown.

Hopefully those answers are sufficient for you. But considering you're the guy who tried to argue Bards have a complex playstyle compared to other classes in another thread, you're either a troll or ignorant so I'm guessing it wont.

Dragoon actually brings a lot more to the table than people thing. The Feint slow is almost game breaking in some boss fights that are not immune. It turns the Chimera fight into a joke for anyone having problem stunning or silencing the cast time. The slow effects cast, auto atk, and how fast a monster can recast it. Its simply amazing if people fully understand it. So many adds have cast moves that can be lowered.

The stuns, Dragoons have the shortest stun in the game which means they can pretty much stop all the cast for every add during a boss fight. Monk have a stun as well but its 40s which can cause some problems. My main is a Monk and I've ran into some problems with a 40s stun on a few boss fights, it just really long to depend on like the Dragoon one is.

Dragoons have the best burst damage in the game and some of the best damage buff moves. Have to burn down an add quickly or object? Dragoons outshine every single class when it comes to this.

Wut? More like 2x, cause with the lv44 or so Pugilist trait it goes down to 40 seconds. >.>

Because DRG buffs the current FOTM top DPS and someone has to bring a melee limitbreak.
