I think summoners have ONE elemental ability, so I don't think bards actually help them at all.
EDIT: unless "nonelemental/unaspected" damage counts as an element, which it has in FF games in the past, but doesn't make sense here lol.

I made the assumption that since it is a caster it has elemental based damage. This is a big letdown.
All of Summoner's abilities benefit from Foe Requiem.



I cannot believe all this I am reading...Is this because you cannot get into a group with the JOB you are playing and so you want to screw BARDS over so someone will let you in?? That is not going to happen. What kind of group are you in that would jack you like that. Every Party has a choice to bring who they want...we cannot be screaming at the developers to help you get into a party...sorry. If someone wanted to bring 4 Black Mages would you be pissed at that too. That would never happen but just saying...leave the rest of us alone and stop the bull crap whining about BARDS. Play the game and have fun...this is also just right now...what if someone figures out something really cool and then everyone starts running 2 summoners...you still going to complain then when it is your JOB that is in DEMAND?
EDIT: The update on these forums is severly lagging...give me credit for my 41 BARD. LOL
So what is the "IDEAL" group for the coil then...or does it change each turn...I have not read ahead becuase I don't want the fights ruined for me but would really like to know everyones thoughts on "STANDARD" Party set ups for 8 players is.
Is it 2 tanks, 2 healers and 4 dps???

Mikedizzy, the problem is that for end game content, no other class right now compares to the Bard in terms of its usefulness and the damage it can do, which is creating a imbalance and benching a lot of other classes. An average bard will be more useful than a skilled melee right now.
The same problem exists in between the tanks. Warriors are effectively useless compared to Paladins.
There is a balancing issue between classes which is further compounded with game mechanics.
Melee classes and Warriors are currently getting absolutely shafted.
Class stacking is always the way to go to clear high end content, but this problem extends past those pushing progression. This problem will continue to exist past the whole progression stage and impact any guilds/groups trying to do 8 man content down the road. This isn't about nerfing bards, this is about balancing all classes and game mechanics.

This is quite amusing. I remember a game where a "standard" party was a PLD, 2x melee DD, BLM, RDM or BRD if you were lucky, and a WHM. Then some people couldn't get into a "standard" party so they made a party of 5x BLMs and a BRD or RDM. The "standard" parties cried "Foul!" and "Nerf!" and then made their own parties of 5x melee DD and a RDM. There was much crying and wailing and gnashing of teeth among the DRGs and RNGs until they discovered these pink flying birds took much better dmg from their lances and arrows.
Point is people will be creative and find new ways. I'd hate to think of dealing with a duty finder that requires you have ONE OF EVERY CLASS before you can queue. Think it's long now!?
Higesan, this issue doesn't have anything to do with duty finder groups, as the content that involves that can have any group composition.
This issue deals with what is needed at this point to get through content via organized groups.

I would be very interested to see what Yoshi has to say about this...the game should have been designed to be beatable with a "mix" of classes like you are all saying. I am sure they must have tested this...right?? Or am I giving them too much credit. I don't think I am...they have to know the DPS and mechanics it takes to defeat the content...hell...they designed and set the numbers. Just because it is easier with multiple BARDS because that is what people have figured out what works first does not mean that is the end all be all of the game. Hey maybe in the later turns you will not want BARDS becasue of some reason...and then you need like 2 or 3 Monks to be most effective.
