Ionno, but in all my fate parties, there have been at least 3 or 4 summoners, typically like 4-6 arcanist jobs total.

So there must be something to be said about their current popularity =)

Certainly don't pick them if you're looking for a "unplayed" class. They're about as FOTM as bard atm.

The other thing is, they're awful in non-duty environments. FATE bosses seem to have a maximum # of debuffs (two rows, shadow word pain, =D), literally 2 rows and dots start being overwritten. Don't believe me? Try triple dotting and festering on Svara, you'll do only 1-2 dots worth of damage as your things get overwritten by other players.

Plus you can't hide other players' debuffs, making it a pain if there is ever more than 1 summoner in a group to keep track of dots.

So they're not -hard- to play per say, just annoying and sometimes frustrating to play.

Also pets are just liabilities 90% of the time =(

If SMN can summon the actual Primals, your other party members would be worthless. Why have a tank that is a mere mortal when you can have a god fight at your side.

This is only beacuse ACN is thee only combat non-50 most people have. Once all legacy finish leveling it, you'll find fewer of them.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy both SCH and SMN, but I am still profoundly disapointed in SMN. I pictured a class wehre each eikon would have atacks and moves that replaced most of my main commands and my combat would be mostly via the pet. As it stands, SMN is a barely powered up (if at all, according to the one lenghty thread on here) ACN. In 1.0, PLD completely changed the feel of GLD, and I don't think it would ahve been too much to expect the samn of SMN and ACN.

In terms of a pet class, SCH is way more rewarding. I love that you can manually target the pet heals (though I do wish it wasn't tied to the gcd as this seems more of a bug than working as intented). I've never seen pet healing class in an MMO and it works really well. We've all seen dot + throw-away pet before, I guess we were just hoping for something more, a true magic pet class.

No one expected them to have the power of Yuna's overdrives, but still--you'd expect to feel like your Summon was doing most of the work, rather than chilling next to you with one managed command (garu's dot extension). Hell, even garuda just feels like a re-skin of emeral carby as ooposed to a unique summon.
