the issue is not the game, its the players who play this like a gamefly rental they play it like gears of war this is not a saints row not a hit it and quit it game its a mmo you play you build the character you do trades you work on various skills now it seems everybody's in a rush to get to the top then complain once they get there, this is common in every mmo on the market now and it sucks to be them.

many of the early quests with emotes and so are were to get players to be more considerate and work as a team to encourage others and be friendly show a team effort but so many of the new players missed that many of us older players understood what they were doing we were taught that at a young age when we were growing up we did not need the internet to be the parent.

all i see is excuses, there are a few reasonable complaints about this game but some of the things i read lately are nothing more than a rotten kid whos now a rotten adult. -> this is not directed at the thread author just a general comment.

Simply increasing the EXP output of dungeons so they have a similar time/EXP ratio as FATEs is just going to make speedruns even more common than they are now.

I'm also worried about adding incentives to trash mobs. Any significant incentive is going to result in players spamming dungeons, killing trash, and ignoring the boss to save time, which is going to be a nightmare for any new player using the Duty Finder. The only way to fix that is to make the incentive to complete the boss significant enough that it makes killing it worthwhile again... and we're right back to people doing speedruns.

The only solution I can think of is to make FATEs rarer. Keep the EXP reward the same (or even increase it), and increase their time limit (so that more people can participate before it disappears), but make them rare enough that they're not feasible as an exclusive way of gaining EXP. Players will have to do some Leves, Hests, or dungeons while they wait.

It's a tricky balance to achieve. Simply replacing FATEs with some other grindy game mechanic isn't going to solve anything, and increasing incentives from other game content is just going to lead to more unpredictable gamer behavior.

Just a moment ago I found two clear examples of what I was talking about the fates. I was on Northern Thanalan on my way to Mor Dhona when a fate spawned, one of those about collecting stuff. After 5 seconds of it's start (I'm not exagerating), the bar went from 0 to 100% and it started the count down. Do you really believe that they couldn't have waited before giving the items to the NPC so that everyone could have a chance at getting gold or even silver? Do you really tell me that that's the game's fault too?

Well, I shrugged and followed my way north, then a second fate appeared. The same zerg came and I couldn't even touch a single mob before it was dead or already tagged (and dead a second later). Heck, even half their people where just standing there doing nothing. That's not playing, and whats worse, that's not letting anyone play.

Seeing as the playerbase doesn't do nor want to do anything about it, I expect that SE will do. Then we'll see plenty of complaints as with the fix to AK speedruns. Keep going, mates.

I constantly see characters 10/15/20 levels higher than me wearing crappy lvl 15-25 gear because it is all they could afford just grinding FATEs. All I can think of is how they are going to be hurting come time for endgame, meanwhile some of us have actually been gathering/crafting along with a slower main class progression and generally just experiencing the many facets the game has to offer... the fact that we're rolling in gil right now after getting headstart on crafting/gathering doesn't hurt either ;x It could be argued that FATE grinders wanted to wait until they hit 50 before they started any gathering/crafting, but at this point the AH's are so flooded with low-level materials and armor/weapons and the prices of said things are driven down so far now that latecomers aren't going to have an easy time of it right from the gate.

FATE grinders who then complain about "Wull immat lvl fiddy lol wut do i do now there's liek nuthing 2 do XD" are just...wow.

"We don't know how many are dead. It's gonna be a lot... it's gonna be thousands.
We don't know who attacked us, we don't know what's coming tomorrow, and I don't know what I'm doing.
But I'll make you this promise: I'm gonna be with you all night, I'm not going anywhere... I'll be right here."

To add to my last post, I've been following one of such fate farming zergs in a high level area... and the amount of fail that I've found is simply astonishing. To make it short with two examples:

    1) Gorgimera, more than half the zerg dead because they can't bother waiting for a tank to grab her and she was spiting AoE all around her randomly as DPS where moving like headless chickens when she turned their way. Maybe that had something to do with the LFG announcements that I was reading, something along the lines of "dps only", cough cough...

    2) All you could see was people spamming AoE attacks like bots, even when there was no fate enemy to be seen in 10000 yalms. I almost had an epileptic attack because of the amount of particles in such small area.

And I agree with you, Talma. I was even seeing level 3x characters leeching in those level 49 fates. How do you expect them to get proper equipment or know how to play their classes when all they do is fate-leeching? To be honest, I don't want any of those players in any of my dungeon groups, as it's not that they would have difficulties or would have to learn (that's fine), but that they couldn't bother learning to start with.

There's a lot more wrong with the game. Endgame is an unholy grind fest. Leveling your alt jobs is incredibly tedious and boring. Honestly, a lot of the issues with the game would not be hard to address, its just a matter of Square stepping up and saying that they realize there is an issue. But they already did that once with 1.0, I highly doubt they'll admit 2.0 has faults.

Over time I think Fates will start to get better. Once there isn't as many people trying to level all at the same time...

Fates are really fun when there is only 8ish people total doing them and they are in a party together. For one you don't finish them all before the next ones start... also you can see stuff and you don't have to spam AoEs hoping for tags so you get some exp.

The fate farming doesn't really bother me, I'm pretty sure something is probably going to change in that area in the near future though.

Right now my biggest "problem" is all the gilseller spamming in shout. There are six different sellers spamming paragraph-long ads as fast as possible and they are always different names when I go to a city, takes forever to type-add them to blist.

Shout has basically became useless. Believe it or not, I kind of miss seeing the random conversations people have in shout...

    EDIT:

One other thing, it is just a little nuisance of mine but I would really like to stay on my mount when I have to talk to an NPC. Or auto-dismount when I try to attack a mob.
