As long as you see people shouting that they will pay for the clear you will have groups running people through for gil.

From what I saw in WoW these were actually Cutting Edge Hardcore Raiding Guilds. I was in several Hardcore Raiding Guilds, throughout my WoW history, but we never sold runs. I find the practice distasteful, but I understand why guilds do it.
Honestly, I've never heard of Gil Sellers doing it, but it makes sense...I find it odd they would have the aptitude to clear something like that this early as when I see them farming they are running around damn near naked-which would make it very hard to mine or botany anything. So it makes me question their actual intelligence and gameskills.

Can't say I support the practice but it gives players a means of making money in a game where money isn't easily had. Will I ever partake? Not hardly.I been in a linkshell that used to sell dungeon runs.
When I joined this linkshell I made it clear I would not help them with it. I was more against it then than I am now.
Now I still won't pay for or sell runs, however I don't care if someone else does it. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the game since I'm not trying to compete with other players.
Append: Love the signature!
Gilsellers were pretty bad about the practice in XI where they sold time in Abyssea leveling parties. That was before Square put the hammer down on it, now you don't see it anywhere near as often. From what I saw in WoW these were actually Cutting Edge Hardcore Raiding Guilds. I don't know, I just think people should earn their loot by being able to clear the content themselves, not to pay for some group to do it for them.
Given how many hours I've been on Titan HM doing it near perfectly and watching people blow up over and over to bombs or weight of the earth I'd probably be tempted if I had the gil. I COULD run it with my FC but they aren't there yet(and don't seem to be in a hurry to get there) so I guess my options would be pay for a run, hope the stars align and I get a group that can actually perform(this is through shouts, not DF), or leave my FC and join a new one. *shrug*

A few shouters have been trying to sell it for 900k on Leviathan, but people laughed them off the server when they tried to shout for that much in Mor Dhona. I think the average is 200k.
I have no problem with this. If you don't like it, don't partake in it. And no, not everyone who sells their battle services are gilsellers, either.
Edit: And to all the people mentioning FFXI - actually, this type of thing has become increasingly common in modern FFXI by normal players. Buying Abyssea rare-ex pop items, for example. It's not a huge deal there now, either.

This bothers me. Not the act itself. I've got no problem with people charging for their services. To each their own -- if someone's actually willing to pay, then I have no business standing in the way. I just think it's sad to see that this type of exchange, which was once a rare thing to see, has become the new normal over time. It seems like every man out only for themselves these days, when it wasn't always like that.
Remember back when MMOs were new, and people helped each other advance in the game simply so that they could have more players available for partying?
"DUDE! Have you been to Riverne? It's BEAUTIFUL! We have to go exploring! Maybe we can camp an NM there and get you a new earring!"
"Nah... my party got lost and died in the Aqueducts after the Minotaur fight, so I never was able to reach the key item that I needed to unlock that place."
"Hey, I'm a WHM. I have Sneak, Invisible, the Aqueducts map, and Reraise in case we mess up. Need some help getting to that key item? Just say the word and I'm there."
On top of helping people get through the Aqueducts a few times, I remember that I was the lucky person in my Chains of Promathia static to be charged with holding onto our Sacrarium key during our story progression. I felt lucky and seized every opportunity that I could find in order to answer shouts for help in Jeuno from people who were stuck on that mission and didn't have the fortune of belonging to a static.
Where did those days go? What happened to the sense of community in MMOs? What happened to the simple joys of sharing, and the honor of "paying it forward" instead of the greed of expecting everyone to pay you back? Yoshi says that only 100 people will see the Coils through to completion before 2.1, and it's got everyone all intrigued about how challenging the content must be, but if you ask me, it's not going to be so exclusive because of the content's difficulty. It's because nobody who has the means to help people see that content is interested in helping others experience it anymore, let alone help players pass the gates that exist prior to it so that people can try experiencing it on their own.
Is it just me, or does anybody else find this type of behavior to be more disheartening than distasteful?

Sadly, I am in exactly the same boat. It sucks. =(Given how many hours I've been on Titan HM doing it near perfectly and watching people blow up over and over to bombs or weight of the earth I'd probably be tempted if I had the gil. Ico Dailemont @ Hyperion (formerly Durandal (formerly Rabanastre))

There is a problem, they are having someone do it for them for the most part. Next if at all they run it i bet they have no idea what to do.
