    This. I guess Alhanelem forgot that FFXI has ALWAYS been about avoiding damage due to being hit for ridiculous amounts. Hence the obsession with Utsusemi, invincibility temp items for Voidwatch, not to mention stupid OP (in an MMO that cares about balance) things like Perfect Defense...

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Ehm, Titan doesn't really do that much unavoidable damage though, his two buster hits on the tank are about 70-80% of a respectably geared Plds health bar and stomp damage only really becomes a true issue if you allow phase 3 to drag on for too long. Everything else is avoidable regardless of how hard it hits. If you lowered plume/bomb damage he would be trivial to the point of being boring =(

    Kill add
    Kill color add
    Hide behind X
    Take debuff 1,2,3
    Avoid aoe
    Interact with object

    So, guess they're just going with what they can use

    It's just a different type of avoid instant dead. Tell me about it then if your WHM can't paralyna SAM/NIN tank after boss discharge within 1 second and sam tank got killed by boss since can't cast utsusemi.

    Oh wait.. maybe you didn't use SAM/NIN tank for a full run and only go for last boss and use more than 6-7 ppl.

    I get your point & Yes, its to over used.
    A fight like Odin: Not enough DPS before time runs out = 1 hit death. would be good.
    But
    Demon wall Repel, i dont see any probliem with, fair warning, already in the right spot. Perfect balance!

    Ifrit LAGG Hard Mode... The fetter part is so unbalanced its not funny so i hope they fix that.
    (& if you need to ask what part. try it! The DPS Mage Limit break part, or need WAY BETTER than required gear if you Dont have a Mage)

    Since the fights for Relic & primal weapons its safe to say it "SHOULD" be balanced for Minimum: AF+GC weapon ~ Same goes for Garuda & Titan "Should be balanced for" but we all know from experiance its not)

    Garuda & Titan im sure they will monitor not who always wins but the actual different players Kill/loss ratio & adjust it according..
    + Extreme mode should be 1 hit k.o's but Elitists will spam hard mode & avoid what they asked for.

    Why even bring it up? Aside from the now obligatory "this isn't FFXI" response, FFXI itself relied almost exclusively on vanilla tank and spank or kiting mechanics, and there were almost never instant death attacks because every single encounter was weighted heavily in the favor of the players as long as they could simply outlast the boss.

A decent tank could very easily kite Kirin indefinitely without ever taking damage, and a good tank could kite Kirin + 1-2 mini gods while your healer goes and raises the party. Then they all rest up and wait for weakness, then they're back in the fight. Laughably easy to recover. Where's the difficulty there?

    Titan would be an absolute cakewalk if his moves were made less dangerous individually. You can already survive bombs as long as you only get hit by one, and you shouldn't ever ever ever evereverever be far enough into the outer red circle to get knocked out of the ring. Outside of Mountain Buster, the damage done to the tank is pitiful and when people are properly dodging abilities I literally spend most of my time at max MP because there's next to nothing to heal.

    One of the things that's always bugged me about instant kill moves is:

    If you're a monster, and you value your own survival, and you have a special attack that will kill everyone, why wait til you're half dead or until some special moment to use it? Why not just kill everybody on the spot?

    You're missing the point. I'm not QQing that these exist, I"m just curious to see how others feel about it.

    Maybe the tank can survive one, but anyone else i've seen hit by them it's instant death.

    Have you? Einherjar was about crowd control and Salvage was mechanic based and normal monsters were scaled to the fact you were naked for a chunk of the dungeon run. None of the bosses instant killed you unless you flat out sucked or were a taru with almost no HP lol. Now Charm...that's a different story.
