Addition to crafting that I think would be highly beneficial (Progress Synths)

I would like to see Progress abilities get their own little UI widget that shows how much progress the player would gain based on that successful ability.

We know that players progress is determined by efficiency of the ability, craftsmanship, and the level of the item. So SE could create a formula that displays player progress on the UI widget, which upon success would grant the progress displayed.

The problem I have with this current system is that the item level changes the amount of progress one gets on a successful attempt based on the item level, and it's fairly difficult sometimes to judge exactly how many abilities one needs to use to reach 100% while focusing on quality.

I can't count how many times i've busted a 100% HQ synth while being 3 progress short because the craft level is 1 level higher then the previous item I crafted. Also on the flip side completing a craft in a single progress ability when I didn't mean too.

Crafting is definitely better now then it was in 1.0, but sometimes needing to keep track of each individual progress advancement for separate levels on separate classes with separate gear gets rather frustrating. Adding this UI widget would allow players to calculate moves and risks in advance.

Start with progress so that you only need 1 progress step to finish, then work on quality.

That doesn't solve the problem of insta crafting.

If you know youre going to insta finish, then you can just work on quality then finish when you need to.

I agree with Reika. I think being familiar with about how much progress you gain is part of being a good crafter, and there's no need for an indicator. If you're to the point where a single normal synthesis will finish the entire item, it shouldn't be a worry anyway.

Well this is an Old Post, and mostly irrelevant. . . however . . .

I don't want a widget or something, I was hoping to forward-calculate how much craftsmanship / control / CP I need to Macro certain synths. I know I need to get CRP to 50 for Byregots Blessing. As I don't have tonnes of gil floating around, I want to optimize my melds while I'm levelling, and make sure I meld only the materia I really need to start doing Darksteel Wire w/ Macro, and spend the rest of my gil on levelling CRP faster so I can start doing those Synths.

Does anybody know the formula used to calculate Progress/Quality based on stats and ilevel?
