Lvl 42 do you even read?Stopped reading a lot of these replies after it was getting ridiculous, I can mine a 1000 shards in 45 minutes, at level 1, did it already when shards shot up to 60 each on ah. If it takes you 2 hours with the double shard ability at 48.. you are doing something majorly wrong..
When you have some levels in the harvesting class you start finding nodes with Yield +1. For Miner there is a wind node with this by the Sylph village in East Shroud. I gather Wind Shards and Crystals there, its a pretty significant boost. I am sure nodes can be found with this bonus in other places if people were to look for them.
My issues so far:
1) Culinary, Whaaaaaatttthef- At least most of the other professions are making something that they're going to use and/or sell; something that lasts, something that can be soulbound and converted into materia. Culinarians are making a PIE that gets CONSUMED and lasts THIRTY MINUTES and goes away if you DIE. Culinary recipes either need to have their crystal requirements reduced (see #2 for an AWESOME way) or have their output increased by about 500%. If I spend 6 crystals on something, and its consumable, I better be making 6 of them. :P
2) Components. Components. Components. Making distilled water uses a shard? Butter? SALT?? WHY? I need magic to create butter? Really? What a sad state of affairs. If the recipe is to make a component thats solely used for something else (see: Flour, Gelatin, Pie Crusts, etc.) it shouldn't use a shard. Save the shard consumption for the actual final product, or we're getting taxed twice.
Also see Armorer for this. Ores-> Ingots -> Plates/rivits/rings -> Final products, not to mention some recipes need other finished products to do as well. Too bad the Ice and Earth shard yield abilities are from botany and not mining. Oh so sick of iron ore, need tons of it as use it for both the iron and steel phases of leveling which is 10-30 that I know of. Need 3 ore per iron ingot, and cant remember if it was 2 or 3 per steel, which just showed up in my crafting logs, and haven't checked recently other to know what to mine, waiting on hitting that +yield trait before go back and mine more. On top of a couple ice and earth shards per synth, that is going to be a lot of gathering.2) Components. Components. Components. Making distilled water uses a shard? Butter? SALT?? WHY? 1000 in 45 minutes? Could you tell me how you doing this? Much like the OP, for 1000 shards it takes me about 2-3 hours to gather depending on the location and I'm only level 24MIN/23BTN. Then it takes me about 3-4 hours to burn through them depending on which craft I'm using.
Status: As of Aug 29, 2013, I'm totally ****ed off with SEE Agent Julien or SEE Agent Pierrre or whoever that ****head is on SE Live Chat. If anyone knows the direct email address for Square Enix Customer Service please let me know.
If they lower the stuff needed to craft, then by gods, lower the required number of gathers required to level gathering..I feel so excited I need to run to 160+ nodes for 1 level. Not that any lower level gatherable is worth anything decent anyways. So if you lower the required number of items...well hello 1gil prices...
Or change gathering GP so it's more like craft CP. Would actually use GP skills more, not just once every blue moon (time goes slower when gathering :P ).
Maybe the slow shard acquisition speed is somewaht intentional to create a market for them. At the current state of things you can either spend up to 2 hours getting crystals or just go to the AH and buy them, essentially paying other people that did spend the 2 hours. I don't see anything wrong with that..
I just had to farm shards for the first time yesterday. I still had thousands left from 1.0 back as long as a mob gave xp it dropped crystals too.
But ya, I agree with the OP. gathering them takes way to long, and I inevitably fall asleep due to the mindless spamming.
some of us ant very rich with the current economy and gil you get for levesMaybe the slow shard acquisition speed is somewaht intentional to create a market for them.
