In a single player game yes. A multiplayer game centered around teamwork requires the team to work together to win.

But... but like Tidus said: "This is my story."

The main issue I have is when people get rude and try to force others to skip CS in the last dungeons. There's only one first time for everyone, and it's basically ruining the immersion if you skip the cutscenes.

We had a run the other day, and a WHM called Kvothe Sixstring said something like "don't waste MY time watching CS, EVER, blablabla". I politely told him that if he did want to rush dungeons, he shouldn't use the duty finder (rather form a group before hand and run with like-minded players willing to rush, but that if SE did put these CS in it was intended for players to be allowed to watch them). In the end, he didn't say another word on the issue... but he did something worse: he chose to stay in the last CS prior to the final event for half an hour (not hitting "confirm" when reading dialogue will simply stop the CS forever), probably just to punish those who were watching the cutscenes. Yet we still tried to finish that big boss, the 7 of us, but with only one healer it was just not doable.

We all did report him for harassment (since we basically couldn't finish that run without him, and him not leaving made it impossible to get another healer...), and just when a player left eventually, 10 minutes to the end, he came back without even apologizing, saying he "had to call the cops" or whatever. We still managed to finish 20 seconds before the timer's end, thanks to a perfect couple of fights.

I've often been abused in such a way, for instance against Ifrit HM: a single player, sometimes two, bullying the whole group with borderline insults and verbal abuse. That makes me wonder why we can't vote to kick a player or something like that. The total lack of control we have over our group when using the duty finder is just a recipe for disaster since it basically equates to immunity, should I say impunity, for the bullies. I really wish SE gave us some form of control, so that groups can react when bullied by a few players.

Why to coach a new/bad player

I remember i ran a FC member through Garuda. We had a PLD tank that i swear just FATE leveled and never tanked a minute in his life. He was horrible! We wiped a ton of times, but we kept coaching him and coaching him and this damn guy went from horrible to damn good quick! Seriously we went from wiping on Garuda well before transition like 8-10 times, to him turning pro and we downed her with ease. It was amazing to see that. I was actually proud of the guy/girl.

Think about this: By influencing or teaching someone how to be good at their class, you will improve the quality of play of every person they party with. So for that one tank, every 3-7 people he parties with will benefit from our 30 minutes of tutelage. So if he did 5 more dungeon runs that day, 15 people had a good experience with him, 20 people if you count him, an experience they would not have had, had we just /ragequit. That was a week ago. How many people you think benefited since? Something to think about.

Wow! I have been pleasantly surprised with the responses I've received on this. It warms my heart to know there are more people like this out there. We have the power to break the "gamer" stereotype, but it is up to us to change it. Thanks for all the excellent stories of perseverance! I honestly expected more of a negative feedback from this post, not that I was trying to troll, merely testing the waters to see if I could approach the negativity from a different perspective.

    Keep the excellent stories coming!

I really hope this ppl are gone if their free month is over...

Im just sick of ppl who leave Duty Finder because they are unable to accept that something takes a couple of tries.

Its usually Healers and Tanks who didnt play 1.0, who are just a burden for the community because they are unable to get through a dungeon without an experienced party.
But they forget that this experience have to come from somewhere.... like wiping over and over again till ppl learned how to kill something.

I can just dream of what the MMO comm would still be like, if WoW never was released...

    P.S: Being able to add ppl from other Servers to my blacklist so i dont get into the same pt with them again {yes, please!}

Here's that negative post you were waiting for:

There are extremes in every group. But there is a very clear line of patience in the sand. These so called "hardcore" players might not always be the most sociable people and sometimes their communication skills are lacking, but they're not all impatient and they certainly don't all immediately ditch parties. Sometimes their instructions are rude or short, but they try. When people refuse to learn this noble "helping the new guy and being bad because you left" business is bunk. How many times is too many times to wipe for no good reason? First time doing a boss? Sure, why not. Second time? Still give that one a pass. Third time? Because of the same mechanics you've now seen and should now understand because you've now witnessed first hand, twice, what other players should have explained to you in the first run, and then should have further clarified any questions you were entirely responsible for raising if something was amiss between the first and second run.

New players are great, it's nice to experience something fresh and to grow from the experience, but you're adults and learning/growth is your responsibility. This isn't kindergarten, nobody is shoving shapes in your face forcing you to learn the three sided demon with many names, commonly known as "triangle". If you are new, say something, if you are confused, say something so it can be clarified, if you need help, ask for it. Hardcore players don't generally mind but people who are just awful and continue to be so with no good reason who say nothing at all or make up excuses or leave do nothing to promote patience. Don't dump this mess entirely on the shoulders of so called "hardcore" players asking them to rise to some bogus challenge. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink... remember that one? It predates video games and remains true.

I don't expect any sort of agreement with my point but it's absurd to conclude the effort lies solely with the "hardcore" group, that removes any form of personal responsibility from new players (who are RL adults, theoretically) and that's nonsense.

It would appear to be something not even the "elites" are able to accomplish. I wouldnt then trust their elite skills if they are not even able to pass them along to other people. Ones who call others down then leave the party would then be the bad player.

I did a Titan fight where we almost ran out of time because someone would keep getting knocked off. No one quit, no one raged. We were all supportive and offered advise and in the end we won. That felt like way more of an accomplishment then the 4 other times I ran it with my FC and won our first time.

I dare you to take up the most challenging position facing the "seasoned" generation of MMO players. Be helpful, kind, and patient, even if you lose in the end.

    Just my 2gil.
This is called arbitrary challenge; like playing basketball with a hand behind your back. It's not the content challenging you, it's the choice of the player that challenges you. This is not fulfilling.

I always laugh at the random DF elitist in my party who die when they think they're all pro. They talk all big at beginning of the quest then become silent when their body is laying on the ground.

I also have one friend who t-bags that specific player until the healer raises him/her to make that player more agitated.
