I go through moods. On one hand I like teaching people. On the other hand if I'm using the duty finder... I can't use this thing for networking as you're probably on some other server. I'll probably never run with you again so in the time I take to teach you something I'm only investing in that one run... no chance or re-playability.

Something like Caestrum we did 60 runs of (me (a SMN), a PLD and WHM pal of mine) and we had chat macros explaining every fight and every weird pull that happened in there. We didn't care if you watched the cut scenes... but we begged you to skip the two oddly placed ones at the very end with the ship raining down firery death and the two sword man cross cleaving your face. They don't add much to plot and SE really needs to create a better transition there.

At the end of the day there's no reason for me to be rude but there's equally no reason to be altruistic. Definitely a Catch 22.

You may want to read Catch-22 again. I believe one of the themes in that book was "Personal Integrity".

I concede it was one theme but did you forget the influence of greed? My time is worth more than your time. I can value that over my personal integrity.

I really did not like Milo. If I was Yossarian, I would have punched that douchebag in the face for killing my friends. He was just trying to make a profit though. And it's not like he was directly involved in their deaths.

In a single player game yes. A multiplayer game centered around teamwork requires the team to work together to win.

But... but like Tidus said: "This is my story."

The main issue I have is when people get rude and try to force others to skip CS in the last dungeons. There's only one first time for everyone, and it's basically ruining the immersion if you skip the cutscenes.

We had a run the other day, and a WHM called Kvothe Sixstring said something like "don't waste MY time watching CS, EVER, blablabla". I politely told him that if he did want to rush dungeons, he shouldn't use the duty finder (rather form a group before hand and run with like-minded players willing to rush, but that if SE did put these CS in it was intended for players to be allowed to watch them). In the end, he didn't say another word on the issue... but he did something worse: he chose to stay in the last CS prior to the final event for half an hour (not hitting "confirm" when reading dialogue will simply stop the CS forever), probably just to punish those who were watching the cutscenes. Yet we still tried to finish that big boss, the 7 of us, but with only one healer it was just not doable.

We all did report him for harassment (since we basically couldn't finish that run without him, and him not leaving made it impossible to get another healer...), and just when a player left eventually, 10 minutes to the end, he came back without even apologizing, saying he "had to call the cops" or whatever. We still managed to finish 20 seconds before the timer's end, thanks to a perfect couple of fights.

I've often been abused in such a way, for instance against Ifrit HM: a single player, sometimes two, bullying the whole group with borderline insults and verbal abuse. That makes me wonder why we can't vote to kick a player or something like that. The total lack of control we have over our group when using the duty finder is just a recipe for disaster since it basically equates to immunity, should I say impunity, for the bullies. I really wish SE gave us some form of control, so that groups can react when bullied by a few players.
