I burned through 400 shards in two levels below level 30 as a Weaver. This was with creating all of my yarn and cloth, not buying them on AH. Two levels, when leveling is still relatively fast and easy.
It goes really fast.
finally some one who understands crafting also not only that but the lvl 50 recipies cost 5-6 shards per synth
so with 2 hours of gathering, you get shards to get about 4 levels for your craft, xp on your gatherer and materials to sell, and make money off of what you craft? Crafting is far too easy and levels way too fast already. I'll admit that sometimes shards should drop from enemies that arent sprites sometimes.. like 25-50% though. If you want more shards, buy them. you arent meant to farm everything you need on one class to get your xp points for another class. you CAN do it, just wont be in a timely fashion. Its sorta like saying that i want to level cooking, but it takes too long to catch all of the fish myself, so give me fish faster.

If your crafting class was meant to make its own shards, it would be able to.

I think around lv 30-35, instead of 4 shards, a recipe should start requiring 2 crystals. At least crystals are worth decent exp. to gather.
Back in 1.0, you could take Crystals and break them down into shards with Alchemist. If memory serves (mind you, it's been a LONG time), it was 1 crystal and a pinch of Fine Sand. You could also break down Clusters into Crystals with Alchemy as well... again, if memory serves.
Beautiful thing was, you could get Fine Sand with cooking by boiling clams... so it was an entirely self-sufficient method for getting shards. All you had to do was go out and kill sprites/ele's for crystals and then break em down.
I wonder whatever happened to those recipes....
Level your crafting with leves, you'll use a fraction of the crystals that way.
