As a former real GM in multiple popular titles let me give a real run down.

Real experience, and not just as a gamer like everyone else is required.

In most cases, and it is stressed highly for the positions with Square Enix, you need to be multilingual. In the us, English/Spanish/French are usually required.

A degree in Administration, Business, and others is often needed. You need to have completed a minimal of credits in data entry, and basic programming as well.

Relocation is often required. Most operate out of actual facilities. Those that qualify for remote administration are required to have business class connections. Scheduled times must be adhered to exactly. You are timed on all trouble shooting interactions and required to handle a minimum. Often you are deducted for not handling a minimum, and handling them professionally.

Training can be extensive, and this is above your degree. You are expected to complete long training hours, and be able to handle simulated issues effectively, with a professional manner.

During actual work, you are randomly tested. How you handle stress, issues, rude people. You won't know when you are being tested, but you need to pass everyone perfectly.

While I enjoyed it, and did well. The pay, stress, and long hours just didn't pay off long term, but I enjoyed the gained experience. You won't be gaming much in life working as a GM.

IF I have to interact with new GMs. I am always polite, and do something to make them laugh and feel good. I know what it is like, and the little extra can make their day so much better. Like myself and others that have done it, I know very well they go home and their minds are running a million miles an hour and it is hard to distress and get to sleep half the time.
