    GM for Hire!

So with all the recent threads about SE's poor handling of in-game content being abused ie. gill spammers, quest bugs etc. I think it would be appropriate for gamer such as myself who put in roughly 30-40 hr a week playing this great game to act as moderators.

I am friendly, outgoing, dynamic, task-oriented and multifaceted. I can easily communicate thoughts and expressions in a clear and concise manner and act with a calm, professional demeanor. (feel free to use this in you resumes lol)

Fyi I do have a real 30-40 hr job and money is not an issue though it would be nice to be paid a wage. I just want to help SE a bit.

Player moderators are a horrible idea. It only leads to kids/adults getting a superiority complex and banning/muting people who make the slightest remark of "disrespect." If you want to be a GM, build a resume and submit it to SE like everyone else had to do for a customer service job. Playing a game for 30-40 hours and saying you're good at A, B, and C is not how you get a job or position for anything, sadly.

Being a GM is just like any other office job. You don't get to play the game and work in the luxury of your home. You report to their office (wherever that may be in your country/region, chances are nowhere close to you) in business clothing (button up collar shirt and tie, or business casual at best) and work 40 hours a week filling out tickets and servicing hundreds of customers a day, all of whom are directly angry at you.

Have you ever been a GM on a MMO before? its not as simple as people make it out to be.

Ive been a GM and Admins on multiple MMO's varying from Private Servers to Legitimate games such as Tales of Pirates.

The player community can be hell, but in all honesty a GM needs experience in that field, but stating you want to be a GM isnt the way to go, most people who become them do have an apply process of which they become monitored to watch their own in game behaviour in comparison to what theyre going to be doing themselves. heck most MMO's dont allow some GM's to even play with the community as they see it as a strong job role. in which i presume SE would see it as too considering the volume of players it currently has. If SE needs GM's then they'll tell the community when, if they don't then don't expect spots to open up. i hate gold spammers just as much as the next guy.

Been in the industry going on 5 years and no one dresses like you claim. We wear jeans and our favorite t-shirt that isn't noticeably stained.

I figured I might get this kind of response but w/e. You win some, you lose some. Btw there is no such thing as a bad idea only poor execution of it. But I think the rampant threads of "SE NEEDS TO FIX..." is a testament to that.

All the GMs that I had to deal with had none of these qualities. The only thing I think is required for them to know is how to press control + c and control +v.

As a former real GM in multiple popular titles let me give a real run down.

Real experience, and not just as a gamer like everyone else is required.

In most cases, and it is stressed highly for the positions with Square Enix, you need to be multilingual. In the us, English/Spanish/French are usually required.

A degree in Administration, Business, and others is often needed. You need to have completed a minimal of credits in data entry, and basic programming as well.

Relocation is often required. Most operate out of actual facilities. Those that qualify for remote administration are required to have business class connections. Scheduled times must be adhered to exactly. You are timed on all trouble shooting interactions and required to handle a minimum. Often you are deducted for not handling a minimum, and handling them professionally.

Training can be extensive, and this is above your degree. You are expected to complete long training hours, and be able to handle simulated issues effectively, with a professional manner.

During actual work, you are randomly tested. How you handle stress, issues, rude people. You won't know when you are being tested, but you need to pass everyone perfectly.

While I enjoyed it, and did well. The pay, stress, and long hours just didn't pay off long term, but I enjoyed the gained experience. You won't be gaming much in life working as a GM.

IF I have to interact with new GMs. I am always polite, and do something to make them laugh and feel good. I know what it is like, and the little extra can make their day so much better. Like myself and others that have done it, I know very well they go home and their minds are running a million miles an hour and it is hard to distress and get to sleep half the time.
