Pld here who multi target tanked all dungeons up to and including Stone Vigil with ZERO problems. I've encountered the full spectrum of dps and healer too and again no problem.

I love tanking in this game. I have had NO issues with holding aggro either. I mean, all I do is hurl insults about various mothers and make salacious commentary and BAM! Aggro.
Granted it's from my party members and they're usually screaming that some lizard man has just given them a horrible gash. But what do I say to this? TIS A FLESH WOUND! I SHALL HEAL THEE WITH MY LOW LEVEL CURE!
The only problem is I usually find myself alone, and with an unfinished quest. Still working on it though.

Personally like the tanking setup in ARR. grp cooperation matters, armor "type" matters (hint: dont try to tank in chain and expect to take minimal damage :P), once you get the jobs you get some of the passive mitigation but its done in a way that the previous point isn't trivialized. Caps on the materia make it to were you cant just "vit stack". CDs have to be used properly. etc.
Might be a bit "punishing" at times (specially for PLD since they are active mitigation tanks) but as others said if you stick to it you get the hang of it. Personally only have tanked a bit, but i like that the dps needs to be responsible too.

Try Warrior! I am having a blast dodging and shutting down all the AoEs, all while keeping agro and dealing a bit of damage. I sometimes feel sorry for the DPS ans I frequently out-damage the less skilled or more lagged ones. I really should start recording some of those boss battles, it have sooo much fun. I don't normally tank, but this is a lot of fun. Really gets my attention and adrenaline going. Its like I got the best of both worlds. Melee action and the entire party is completely dependent on me to succeeding; so I feel really important to our success.

This is very true. I could spam my one hate rotation over and over as a WAR, but then Id be a terrible tank. You need to know when to use ur defensive buffs, my second rotation adds a dmg buff and defense reduction to enemy or self heal. Along with that I get a move that heals myself for about 1k but it takes 5 attacks to build it up. Along with that I could also use a few other moves with those 5 charges. There is A LOT more to this game than spamming 3 buttons. If that's what you are doing, you are doing it wrong. Early on you might be able to get away with it, but even then u need to use a fourth for your aoe threat. Zaiken, you sound like an obvious troll who knows nothing of end game battles.

Paladin is a Magic Tank class, they should at least get access to higher Cure, not just Cure which is pretty much useless imo. Cure III would be over power, but at least Cure II. In FFXI Paladin was so much fun because they get access to most of the Cure to generate Hate and can heal themself when needed, in FFXIV you rely soly on the Healer to keep you alive. If their MP is low you will be dead in no time. Why even give us access to a sub class that only get Cure I as a Paladin? In FFXIV you're not really a Paladin anymore.

IMHO, that isnt the issue, the same vicious circle that existed in wow will exist here and possibly be worse. Dungeon = 4:1 ratio, 8man raids = 4:1 ratio. 24 man = 1:12 ratio???
Why I think it will be worse? simple, because unlike WoW, in this game, 24 man raiding also requires 8 man raiding, they are not equal. Once 24 man raids come in and tanks start getting fired, it will get worse.
I like tanking but I hate that my class is so badly gimped compared to PAL.
Tanking in FFXIV is nice because it's more work and needs more coop. It's not just "I have threat forever now" five seconds into the battle. It takes effort on everyone's part. And when tanks do their job well, they don't lose hate anyway.
Cure III is awful, and no, you aren't going to get my job's strongest heal. That would be idiotic. This is a team game, so you'll never be self sufficient in a dungeon/raid.Paladin is a Magic Tank class, they should at least get access to higher Cure, not just Cure which is pretty much useless imo.
