You couldn't be more wrong. I have 0 issues with holding agro. ZERO ISSUES.Paladin in FFXI we fun... Threat was coming out of everywhere. Most of the time things would get so mad at me no one could get it off of me no matter how hard they tried. Ninja was fun... threat wasn't that great but if they couldn't shadow wipe I could sit there all day taking no damage. These things are fun and they are the kinds of things tanks in other games do.
Right now tanks are 100% reliant on DPS and Heals watching their threat and 100% reliant on Heals keeping them up. There is no "HAHA you can't get it off of me" and there is no "HAHA I can't die" but there is a lot of "please target what I target and don't get to carried away with your damage, also please be quick with the heals so I don't drop dead".
For the first time in a decade of MMOs I am looking to main a DPS class and that in my opinion is not a good sign for the game.

I quit being a tank because of other bigot tanks and their friends while fighting Ifrit HM. When someone starts the fight off with "eww, your black?" you know you know its gonna be a stressful fight. I would try to tank but his mage friend would cast as i was starting the fight making it very hard to hold aggro. Of course you fully knew it was him since the mage died first but THEN they would blame it on me. So my tank PLD will sit on the side lines for now.

I had the craving for those the other day. SOOOOO good.

I do have shield oath, which gives me additional threat, but I've never had hate problems as a result of being a paladin.
If you're marking the target and dps are attacking it and you're losing THAT target, your weapon is probably underlevel. If you're losing aoe hate regularly, while dps are attacking your target, you're doing something wrong.

I don't know what problems you are having.
I had absolutely ZERO threat issues in low level dungeons.
Flash liberally, it is an amazing ability at lower levels. Mark targets, get threat on target 1, tab to the second kill target, go through your rotation, and alternate through everything that is not CC'd and be sure to check back to the primary kill target after you get a couple of hits on one target at a time. For instance:
If there are 4 mobs, and you have them marked as such 1, 2, 3, 4.
Fight or flight > Shield Lob 1 while running into the pack
Flash as soon as you are in range of the mobs> Fast blade, savage target 1> flash
fast blade, savage target 2
flash
Tab back to target 1, fast and savaging again since DPS are gaining threat
flash
Just work your way around the targets. Using riot blade as you need MP back.
The key thing is practice.

wut?
After getting 50 PLD earlier tonight, the only period I had problems with was 30-40 as everyone had fancy new jobs, and I didn't have shield oath yet.
I really haven't had a hard time keeping hate, sometimes the odd mob will peel off and say hi to the WHM, but careful positioning and reactions gets it back fast. Maybe tanking just isn't for you, bud.

I've never liked tanking in other mmos.
In FFXIV tanking is my main job, and i love it. i have war at 50 and geared alright and i got the pld moving up around level 30.
Tanking rocks. You need to stick it out until higher levels. And if rotating between is an issue for you, be a warrior.

I will admit that I as going to actually play a tank in the beginning, but I stopped due to the utter "clunkiness" feel. I definitely think tanks could be much more enjoyable if it didn't have the taxing global. /shrug.
You can reduce any class to spamming skills, but it's disingenuous at best. Were it as simple as spamming skills, there wouldn't be such a wide range of ability levels in tanks. You don't constantly have to tell DPS to do anything. If they take aggro, who cares? DPS can take a couple hits and be fine. It's not like there's a lot of healing necessary. Plus you can learn to be better and discover new methods and strategies to building threat. Bad DPS early makes you a better tank later. Not really that fun, you spam the 3 skills over and over again along with flash to get hate. You mark the Target so hoping the DPS would target that monster. You constantly have to tell them to attack only the Target you attack. Ranger always keep stealing your hate showing off their DPS. Our sub job skill Cure are pathetic making it worthless. Our damage is laughable.
I hope they buff the Tank damage more, and at least gave them Cure 2.
Also, your DPS is irrelevant. It's not your role.
How is it clunky? Weave buffs in between attacks and let it flow better. The GCD gives you plenty of time to cycle through mobs to check their threat levels. It's actually quite nice.
