My account was hacked and how it's been handled so far.

People complained in earlier beta phases that the launcher itself was susceptible to be compromised. So possibly their is an exploit in the launcher still.

If you're positive you did nothing shady (no one will admit it anyway..) there's a good chance you use the same info in multiple places - I can assure you no one can randomly figure out your info out of the blue, no hacker or hack tool is that good, they need something to go on. SE IDs can't be "guessed" unless your ID for example is Ryujinketu which matches your in-game and the rest is brute force history.

It's impossible to hack someone magically and obtain credentials out of nowhere.

So chances are another one of your accounts of some other service got compromised and you used the same password in there and in FFXIV.

Even if a hacker knows your ID, if your password is like 25 chars long it's literally impossible to crack it, good luck trying to bruteforce a randomly typed password consisting on like 25 characters including caps, non caps, numbers and symbols. Impossible.

Like, you got hacked in that small window in which you hadn't your token working, so that means they ALREADY had your info, otherwise cracking a password would take months and months.

Also has anyone thought to think that it is possible they are obtaining our info via the forums?....our character, world name, class/lvl are here plus some people use their user names in the forums for what they log in-game for including password....

I'm the only one here that get his account automatically locked when I login from a different IP? I then have to check my email and change my password. Honestly I think its a pretty good feature to prevent hacking. So how is everyone else getting hacker? This require the hacker to get your email too and change your password.

I got hacked yesterday too, lost all my gil (100K), I logged and had to sell a few old gear to be able to teleport. I changed my password too after that.

Uhmmm... I am curious. How would they find out your login data when you only replied to a /tell? Would it be like "Oh look, that one replied, check that Character!"? (Asking because a week ago or so I answered a RMT-tell with the words that he should leave.)

On the other hand: Oh my, I really hope my token's batteries won't die too soon, even though I already have a new one from the 2.0 CE @_@

It doesn't show your SE ID name - The info needed to log in, unless of course, you use the same name for it.

I would be honest if I had gone to any site...wouldn't matter anyway. But I am old enough to know better lol...and being from 1.0 I had plenty of gil...well...had plenty of gil and didn't need any. I also use the PC I play FFXIV on literally to play FFXIV on. The only websites I visit are the official forums and my linkshell's site. Any other browsing or anything else is done on my Mac or iPhone. I only play 1 other game but the user ID and pass are completely different. I can't paint the picture any more clearer than I already have. Believe it or not, I couldn't care less, I am just frustrated at how it's been/beeing handled thus far.

Truthfully I haven't the faintest idea. It was just what was being tossed around at me in the other game I was playing at once point. Around that time i was suspicious of anything after I got hacked.
