what i do, now i have had so many is turn all chat off, chat to my LS only.
But perhaps
1. Create another blocklist for RMT only.
2. (Server based app) Using RMT block list, scan names on RMT block list. If appears in more than xx (say 30) lists disable the account.
Or
1. Create yourself an intelligent app that flags any chat as spam (emails do it so sure u can do the same) then have 1 (or how every many needs) employee to monitor flags and suspend accounts imedidatly. You will have to empower the employee to suspend, which is probably a tough move, but until that happens RMT will be around.
note: If you can suspend RMT account in under 5 mins then I am sure then will move to next game.
note2: Perhaps instead of suspending accounts you can disable chat option for suspected RMT until investigation complete. This might be quicker and for those who have been hacked means they can still play, if/when they get the RMT off lol

The only problem I see with this is the possibility of RMT moving on to taking up names that people actually want.Another idea that could help with the problem a little is a sanity check on the names. Yes, it is easier to see right away that Egklshs Eddsedngld is a bot and is going to be spamming the hell out of trade shortly but on the other hand making a sanity check would make for things that are a little easier to type in. It would probably also throw them off for a half hour or so as they ditch the random letter generator and move to a list of names.
They could block repeated spams of the same text, that way it gets the spammers but not the people typing normal chat.
edit: only block repeated text within say 60 seconds or something, so you dont block macroed FC adverts.

There does need to be more done about the RMT shout spam that is going on. It is getting to the point where I would avoid the cities if I could, or just turn off shout all together anytime I go to one. Downside to turning off shout or avoiding the towns, is less people reporting them.
A short enforced delay between shouts would go a long way to making it easier to blacklist and report them. As scrolling up the chat log to track down a name does not always work at freezing the chat spam so can see the name for blacklisting, and copying the message into a report.
Tempted to included a one minute copy of a chat log in a report on them to help show how bad it is. Pretty sure it would be able to hit the line limit for reports easily.
Oh, for who ever said to keep them from doing the same message over and over again, they do change like the last 3-7 characters of their shouts already.

It can get pretty awful when there are about 4 of them all spamming super long messages at once. They can make it nearly impossible just to catch the names o_o

This could also be a good idea, maybe they could add some kind of Spam Filter that you can enable too.
I'd love to block the macroed FC adverts too!
If your FC is really that good, you can spend the time typing the message in by hand...
In any case, 60 seconds is too short. Anyone broadcasting the same message every 90 seconds is still spamming, IMO.

I agree, macros for FC recruitment really aren't necessary. Also, spamming your message every minute is more likely to annoy people than it is to get them to join. Maybe macros in shout could just be disabled entirely, while leaving them for party chat and such? I can see how people may need to make party chat macros for when using an ability or needing a certain thing from another player quickly.
Other than possible FC recruitment is there any other reason legitimate players might want to keep the ability to shout macros?
