Fishing is really fun and I enjoy doing it in any case, but I just assumed that the fish were crafting materials for culinarians. The fish really aren't useful for anything?

This is true. That's a market that will eventually run out, since pets are pretty much one-time deals per buyer, but for the time being, it is pretty high demand.

Certainly sells better than any fish at the moment.

There's usually at least one fish in every fishing location that's usable by culinarians (and sometimes goldsmiths and other classes). That said, it's often not really that useful, so there may not be much demand (or it'll be oversaturated in the market because of ease of catching it).


I'm not really fishing for profit, but the high level fish took me 6 days to sell on my server. That may be because people haven't leveled culinarians high enough to want those fish, but who knows.

The Mahi-Mahi, by the by, is only useful for a crafting dish (mind you, it's a pretty amazing crafting dish), so the demand for it isn't particularly high.

I started levelling fishing because I figured it would be super useful like it was in XI. That said, some of the leve's seem like a really easy way to make cash.

While you are unloading your stinky mess on the vendors, you will note that any items that are useful for anything say so: Crafting material. Otherwise, smack the sods with it til they give you yer clink.

I want more things to fish at 50, there's like 5 viable fish for me to fish as a 50 fisher and hundreds of fish in the game, that's silly. I want to be able to fish nebimonites for shihei, or breams/grimms for tacos, or squid for sushi, or breams for another sushi, or tunas for yet another sushi, or moat carps for lu shangs quest, or a fish that sells well to NPC, or a fish that can be gutted and gives me a very rare chance for an item that sells on the AH for millions, or fish two legendary fished that can be gutted with a very low chance to give two items that are traded in for the best fishing rod in the game, or Calimari for Shihei, or Squids for shihei, or numerous other fish I can't remember.

I seriously had over 10 different fishing spots I could fish at for gil, quests, crafting mats, useful items, etc in FFXI.

Why did FFXI have so many things to do with fish, so much to do as a fisher, and so many useful fish? It was a game within a game. Why was FFXI fishing better than FF14's in every way possible? How did we downgrade going from an 11 year old game to a brand new one? How does that happen?
