I believe it is there to avoid stupid ppl who fate grind lvl 5 - 50 without doing dungeon, leves (treasure coffer) and story mode. It is good in some ways.

He must have serious issues or doesn't know the difference between endgame and starter endgame.I'm sure we'll see a lot of those, but it was already happening though in a different way. A few days ago I was running Castrum Meridianum with a bunch of first timers, and one of the tanks already had a few pieces of Darklight and then started to insult the other tank for wearing AF. We can already see shouts "LFM for X! Must have full Darklight and Ifrit weapon or better!", item level will just change all those things into a single number.
Starter Endgame being Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium are made to help people gather the experience for endgame and to gather the gear need. People run Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium for the purpose of gathering darklight. It should be natually expect to have only AF1 since CM and TP are made for people with AF1 to work their way into Darklight.
And we need to keep all the low level gears if we want to replay the low level dungeons.
So sad... I don't like this function at all.
Its not the system that's the problem it is the people. Dungeons are developed with a certain gear level in mind. Sure some people are skilled enough to get away with less but most of us aren't as much as some want to claim otherwise. The problem comes in when you have someone trying to join a group for an entry level HM and certain types of people thinking unless you have all end game top tier gear you aren't worthy of the instance. THAT is where the problems will start. Not that they are now blocking people who try to bypass the progression system already in place.
OP, you make ZERO sense.
Item level has been in the game since release. Why are you just complaining about it now? Because Endgame dungeons queues are going to have a minimum item level? That's a necessity.
The behavior you're whining about occurs in every MMO regardless of having gearscore, item level or nothing. FFXI was EXACTLY THE SAME. The people who took the game more seriously than others would require that you had top level gear for content. If you showed up to a Dynamis or Salvage with crappy gear, you were kicked by those people. Nothing is different, and FFXI didn't even have item level.
You literally do not have a point.
Give it time. The elitist will get there gear. And with the quick turn around time on the game run out of shit to do.
The rest of us will get up to 50 with ok gear and be happy to work for it.
I have a 50 cnj from 1.xx I haven't used it yet. I am leveling WAR now at 35 to give a more pure filling of the story, And when I hit 50. Like more people I will need to work threw these things.
MMO aren't meant to be finished in 60 hours, Yet I know many legacy player that finished the main story in Early access. And I ask myself what are they going to be doing in 3-4 weeks time? All geared out with nothing to do till 2.1 comes out. While I think there will be a little more content in 2.1 most of it will be more polishing of the game, things they just didn't get done but weren't game breaking like "Sort".
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
Well I know what I'm doing now since I'm done with the Main storyline...
Get a lvl 50 Bard since I find it more fun than Summoner and get the full Darklight Set for my Bard. Ya I have a lvl 50 Summoner but it was just a test run so I'm switching to Bard.
Try to get all classes to lvl 30.
Get a lvl 50 Miner and start making a fortune selling tier 3 Shards
???
Profit!!!!

It's not really about being elitist. You have to stop being lazy with your gear at endgame because things get difficult. If you aren't properly geared then you're just wasting other people's time. AF is fine for AK but not optimal for speedruns. You should definitely not be using AF past HM Ifrit. And if you're too lazy to at least get the best GC weapon then you definitely shouldn't be doing endgame content.
I went back to FFXI for a month between phase 2 and phase 3 testing, and this is absolutely true. Delve groups wouldn't bring people without the L90+ relic weapon along with good gear. I know it wasn't as hard to get anymore, but from what I read the SoA content was actually difficult and required good gear to do effectively.
Exactly the kind of clulessness that the gearcheck is going to expunge from end-game contents. I could add more insults to the injury but I'll refrain myself from doing so.Yet I know many legacy player that finished the main story in Early access. And I ask myself what are they going to be doing in 3-4 weeks time?
Come tomorrow there will be QQers; people threatening to quit; people ragequitting...
To all of that I say -- good riddance.
