[ Monster AOE Zone for Australian Players ]

    Hello Forum/SE,

Through out the game, I've noticed that the orange aoe indicator tends to be extremely buggy/laggy. At the start I thought it maybe my own latency, however after talking with many other players it seems to be a very common issue.

Have you noticed how you can run out 2x or even 3x the required distance from the damage area markers but still get hit? Sometimes the knock-back effect can even knock you into the opposite direction of the attack itself. While it's possible to dodge any channeled attacks, there's definitely something not right with the mechanics behind these abilities.

I don't know the technical reason behind this, though my tech friends say that it may be due to the game not calculating player dodge mechanic on players local machine but rather it's far away thus it's buggy/laggy.

I really hope SE could address this reasonably soon because it's quite frustrating to not be able to play to the best of your ability not due to skill or style but rather a mechanic issue. I play on the Behemoth server from Australia and I understand being far away from the NA datacenter may cause delays in game play but it shouldn't be so bad that every time a monster use a channeled ability it's a gamble. I'd personally suggest perhaps an active dodge mechanic which if used timely will negate the orange attack zones, or perhaps just slightly more slack between cast and effect so that players still have to be on their toes but is not subjected to game ending results due to the inability to avoid.

The issue here is that were SE to ease up on the AE dodge timing (beyond the buffer that already exists) to compensate for latency issues experienced by some players, said content would be made easier for players without latency issues. I and many others have been pleasantly surprised by the difficulty (compared to other AAA MMOs) of this early content and would absolutely hate any nerfs to that difficulty, however well-intentioned they may be.

after reading through some post, I think many non-american players are experiencing this problem. I have only half a second to start moving out of the AOE in order to dodge it...any longer than that I'll take a hit. I also have to dodge out from the most direct route, failing that I take a hit. I won't say it is impossible, but the margin for error is so small, and when there are multiple aoe coming one after another (stone vigil), I just can't do it.

That's actually the case for many people with good pings as well. This game is not forgiving when it comes to dodging AEs. If you're a clicker or if you get tunnel-visioned in your DPSing, healing, tanking, etc., you're gonna eat some AEs. One of the best things you can do is adjust your UI to group combat elements together. The most important thing is to group up your hotbars, HP/MP/TB bar and target bar. That way you won't be constantly shifting your eyes between the top and bottom of the screen as you watch for casts, check your cooldowns, etc.
