Do we need a petition to make it possible to change the starting city-state?

I'd love to be able to change my starting city in my character profile, I was quite distraught when I logged into my Legacy character to get back in the action and had it changed to Uldah instead of my original starting city of Limsa just because I had logged in as the first class selected (gladiator). And yes this would be for RP reasons and it matters to me.

if the starting city matters that much then just choose a class thats starting in the city u want, this is not a big deal. put your pants on and man up.

since you need to actually join your guild at the beginning of the game, and not only have to do their storyline quests, starting in a city state that does not have your classes guild could be problematic. A good idea would be to have the ability to replay the story mode quests after completion of the story. One game that did this well was Defiance. it allowed us to replay the story as our stronger version, and allowed us to enjoy watching the great animations. I wonder if they would have that as a feature eventually to replay the story mode of all three city states or the entirety of it altogether...

Same here! Not so much for RP reasons, but just knowing that I'm not a true Ul'dahn has REALLY bothered me.

Yeah that's not a problem for new players, but some of us made a mistake when we imported from 1.0: we didn't know that starting city and class were linked, so we simply didn't change our class during import. New characters are prompted to do this, but not 1.0 imports. So it's a mistake a lot of people made.

Nice idea but please remeber to add the class guilds to each city otherwise having an archer start in say Ul'dar but the guild in Gridania would cause a few issues like starting your class quest lol,common sense would assume this wouldn't happen but oversights do happen lol

As a Legacy player with all level 50 battle jobs in 1.0, I started in Limsa as Arcanist to make leveling it more efficient with the story quest XP. I don't like pirates or the way LL folk talk or their story, but it was a conscious decision to to start in Limsa as the benefit of starting as Arcanist outweighed the few days I spent doing the pre-20 main story quest in Limsa.

If given the option I would switch to Ul'dah in a heartbeat, but it's not something I spend any time worrying about.

Actually it lists your city on your profile page under character settings.

yes, but it really doesn't mean anything. It has no effect on anything whatsoever beyond the first handful of story quests.

There are some quests that identified me as a "fellow Gridanian." My starting choice coincided with my choice of home state, but I'm glad there will be an option for those who weren't as fortunate.

I don't really understand why people are so hostile to the very idea, though it's nice to see they don't represent the actual people working on the game.

When starting the game and selecting a starting class, you will be assigned to the city-state where that class resides. However, we understand that some users wish to belong to a different city-state even though they started with a specific class. We are currently looking into a system that will allow you to change your city-state affiliation, and we are doing our best to have this ready for patch 2.1.
