Repair mechanics, perhaps could be tweaked

Spinning this off from the various inflation/deflation threads, I found it curious that people are stating the death penalty from a suicide speed run (2%) is lower than the degradation from a full clear of trash without deaths.

From those closely monitoring their gear costs, what is the approximate loss for a full deathless clear? Are tanks at much higher because of being hit or is the degradation based on "in combat time"?

From playing other MMOs, I have to say that 2% seems incredibly low for a death penalty. It could easily be raised to 10% and maybe reduced when the target is raised in the field to reward altruism. This would allow the "living degradation rate" to go down, and people might be happier without adding new gil fountains to the game.

To be honest though, I've played for hours without having to repair a piece (without replacing it either), unless the degradation speed increases dramatically along with cost at 50, I really wonder how people can say that content damages their gear faster than they can earn it.

I was actually very surprised to find out that death had such a minimal hit on your equipment. I mean, it's fair that SE wanted to move away from the very punishing death penalty of FFXI (exp penalties, whoo!), but it feels like death is completely meaningless in this game. At worst, it's an inconvenience because you set your homepoint too far away.

The later dungeons can be fairly long, so if clearing all the trash mobs causes more than a 2% degrade in equipment quality (which is probably the case) for all players by the time they reach the boss, then suicide speed runs will pretty much be cheaper on repairs.

It feels like something is always breaking to me...while crafting or fighting. I haven't felt this big of equipment degrade since playing Enthroipia...and that game charged you real money to repair so it was understandable...I just hope they plan to less the degrade of equipment in this game. Aside from being expensive, it's a pain to switch classes, try to figure out what was broken on another class, and then switch classes several more time to repair the rest of what is broke...

Kind of annoying really. Plus your GP is reset on your miner/botanist...not good.

While Repair fees will be getting cheaper this week, I still think the degradation algorithm should punish death more and play less.

That makes a lot of sense.
