    FFXIV and HD 6990

anyone playing FFXIV with an ATI 6990? I'm about to purchase one and would like to know how well this card performs with FFXIV. If anyone is using it, can you tell me if you can max out all the graphic settings, including AO and DF and what kind of FPS are you getting?

    EDIT:

I didn't want to wait till June so i went and purchased my 6990. A Sapphire 6990.... I put all the settings on MAX including AO and DOF..... the results?

11FPS at 1680X1050..... either my card is defective or this game is even more poorly designed then i thought....

I do have way lower FPS ~10fps in buletstorm also when using eyefinity... which seems to indicate something is wrong with the card but other games play fine so i dunno....

    EDIT #2:

I tried setting AA in Catalyst to override FFXIV's settings. When booting the game my PC would shutdown completely and would not turn back on until i turn off the PSU switch and then back on. No other game or application does this. I even tried running Furmark for 1h to test stability and everything worked fine.

I reset catalyst gaming settings to default and now FFXIV works ok. One thing i noticed is that my video card will make a weird noise while playing FFXIV. I had the same noise happen with my previous card ASUS 5870 and i thought there was something wrong with the card itself but now this brand new Sapphire 6990 does the same weird noise. No other game i tried has the same effect.

    Edit #3

I update my drivers to 11.5 last night. Launched FFXIV and saw about a 5FPS increase. my settings are below

    General Quality - high
    Backround Quality -standard
    Shadows ( Highest )
    Texture Quality ( High )
    Filtering ( High )
    Super-Sample
    AA - 8X
    DOF - ON
    AO- Off

    Running on 5264X1050 resolution

    i get around 40FPS using a 6990 at 880MHZ core, Phenom 1090T X6 @ 4.0GHZ and 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ 7-8-7-20

I am but i'm getting the card in june, around the release of patch 1.18. So patch 1.18 + battle changes + dungeons + playing FFXIV running at max settings on 3 screens Eyefinity might just bring me back... for 1h or so :P

I haven't found any information stating that FFXIV is running any better with Dual GPU Video Cards. From all the threads I have read so far on that matter, the 6970 will run FFXIV better even though the 6990 is two 6970 GPU's. The reason is becauses FFXIV will only use 1 GPU from the 6990, causing it to be overworked on that single GPU. I have heard that there is a work around for getting Crossfire to work properly with FFXIV, so a better option would be to Crossfire two 6970's, which by the Benchmarks I've read, will outperform the 6990 anyways. Even a single 6970 would be good enough with the 2gigs of video memory to run on your screens, as I'm sure even Crossfired 6970 wouldn't run FFXIV Max Settings with DOF and AO.

For Nvidia? Best for money/graphics 480, Best for Graphics 580 - 590 is also Dual GPU, so same issues as 6990

I would say the GTX 580. The 590 is a dual GPU card and will suffer from the same crossfire/sli poor performance i guess.

I cannot believe that there is a lot of games out there with graphics 10 times better then FFXIV and that can be maxed with a single 5870 or the nvidia equivalent, yet the most powerful card on the planet will not max out FFXIV... i'm sorry but Japs suck at PC programing. Can't wait to see FFXIV on a PS3!

I was waiting to see if this was going to turn into a flame post. Sorry dude, but there is already a post about FFXIV and future optimization. Hope I was able to help you with your decision on a Vid Card to purchase. But I'm kind of thinking you only used the OP to trigger a post about FFXIV's DOF and AO and optimizaion, and that you really aren't planning on buying a new Vid Card at all.

And who are you to say i am not planning to buy a new video card at all? I think you are over stepping your boundaries here my friend.

I want to buy a new card yes and since i haven't seen anyone say they maxed out FFXIV anywhere i was wondering if ATI's latest monster would be able to do it but it seems that it can't. Someone suggested 2X 6970 which i might do since it will cost me the same thing or 50$ more.

It is not a thread to complain about AO and DOF, i was just frustrated to see that even the most powerful card on the planet won't do the job or maybe it is just ATI cards since i've read somewhere Nvidia performed better but i guess there is no way of knowing that.
