On topic: I just ran into the first real instance of this on the last boss of Toto-Rak (Ifrit wasn't so bad). I went through it all at my own pace and apologized to the group afterwards because they were all waiting for me. They seemed cool with it.

What is odd though is that the lines are interactive and I actually have to click to move on. I didn't try, but it seems like someone could go afk there and really screw things up.

This goes both ways. The majority rule, it's the only reasonable fair way of doing things through duty finder.
Nope i'll be the tank they're gonna have to wait. That might sound selfish and it is but they're also selfish for asking me to skip cut scenes i can only view once.

His response did not leave anything in addition to what I said, so he didn't really have a point other than the one I already made. Nothing of what I said was contradicting or in any way favourable towards a specific way to enjoy content.

On the contrary. You said that if he didn't want the other party members to bug him about skipping the CS when he wanted to watch it, he should make his own party. In the same way, if you don't want players taking up your time watching the CS when you just want to speed through, make your own group instead of using the DF.

Not going to skip. Ever. Its a few minutes tops, they can wait. Someone leaves, oh well, too bad ... theyre likely wasting more time starting over than just waiting it out. Even more if they get yet another player that hasnt seen it. This is content that was made for the game and is meant to be seen by its players. Yeah, id have to requeue but im in no rush either, there is PLENTY to do in this game.

Check the dam team list to see who is still watching the cutscenes before rushing in. Way I see it, if you rush in, you caused the wipe, not the person enjoying the game as he/she should be. Its like blaming the healer because you rushed in when he was OOM. I wonder if this even happens in the JP servers.

Is waiting that much longer for someone to finish watching that detrimental? People waited for me to watch the cut scenes, so I return the favor and defend those who end up watching them. Use your LS and FC to your advantage if you really want speed runs to farm things.

Problem is you can queue duty finder as a partial group so if you have a majority you'll always have a majority leaving those who simply queued in for another objective at a loss be it speed run or story. However with that said I'm more inclined to say this is more disadvantageous to story-goers. Most people progressing for story have already realized you can't party with friends through a majority of the quests and so have set off on their own utilizing the duty finder to complete the story at their own pace while those wishing to speed run will probably find others and partial party queue.

I believe Yoshi himself said to play this game more like an RPG than an MMO - to me, that means "watch the cutscenes when you want to, not when someone else is telling you to".

I am all for people watching the cutscenes if it is their first time watching it. The story is there to be enjoyed. However, there are a few arguments AGAINST watching cutscenes... which are...

    1) Sometimes a cutscene gets triggered in the middle of a battle (literally while you are fighting mobs). One example that comes to mind is if you turn off the last searchlight in the Castrum final boss room before all adds are cleared. If people do not get out of the cutscene ASAP, it could lead to serious problems. Granted, a person IN a cutscene is immune to damage, but the people outside of the CS aren't. Not everyone watches at the same speed. There is a lot of pressure to 'skip'.
    2) There is a time limit on the runs, especially the longer storyline dungeons. People who are new to these dungeons might have serious issues with them, which makes every minute count. I've seen it happen.

To fix the first complaint, SE can make it so you cannot trigger certain cutscenes until all engaged mobs are dead.
To fix the second complaint, SE could 'pause' the timer and lock people in place until everyone is done with any CS triggered within the instance (similar to when you start and are locked in the blue circle).

That just leaves the impatient people who have done a dungeon too many times to count and are simply farming it for tomes. Usually, when I do castrum runs... I won't bother people about skipping the cutscenes. Most of them are before trash so we can keep clearing the trash mobs while they are enjoying the story. That is, assuming at least one tank and healer is with our 'skipping' group.

For the people who are going to start insulting others if the cutscenes don't get skipped, I would suggest a 'checkbox' for every dungeon run on the duty finder -- "Experienced." That is, the player knows the fights and has seen the storyline before. This way, players who are rushing don't need to annoy the people who would still rather enjoy the storyline. That said, this will drastically change the playerbase available for dungeon runs... If everyone is trying to sign up for 'experienced' runs, who will be there to help the new players finish their storyline runs? Some players who don't mind that others are enjoying the story might still sign up for shorter queues... but it would of course be something that would need to be adjusted.

I would also like to clear up (as others said) that you CAN watch every single CS in the game. It is not a lie. However, you must look at the "Duty" section in the inn as well as the "Main Scenario" section. Unfortunately, the main scenario cutscenes will NOT be available until you have COMPLETED that particular quest, so if handing in the cutscene ends in a spoiler, you'll still lose the immersion.
