Yea I have a 50 DoW a 50 DoH and my mining is 47 simply because that's all I needed to get my DoH to 50. Now I'm leveling it to 50, but it's still tedious :P Point is, mining for ARM or BSM is a constant thing. Going out to kill things is hit or miss AND gathering from nodes doesn't interfere w/ FATES or questing. There's also no contesting nodes; everyone can hit them. When you're in a spot where maybe 4-5 things spawn (diremites / sheep) then they're usually controlled by 1 or 2 people (whoever can get the tag off). It's that extra effort that the other crafting / gathering classes don't have to deal with that's a pain.

All this is very true and there's no doubt that mining is a much faster and reliable way to get mats once you have it levelled up. I still think they need to improve the material monster grind situation in some way, I just wanted to share one note worthy perk about it that people hadn't considered.

At the very least things like diremites and sheeps should be given extra spawn locations. Drop rates and everything else aside, there are just too few spawns to support the demand for such key profession materials.

Working off this idea, they could make a trait that you can equip (or buff, whatever) on your combat class that makes node-type areas spawn (think story quests with the purple rings) that when you enter the area, it spawns mobs of the type you're looking for (sheep, mites, etc). They'd be all locked to you like duty quest stuff.

There's also the way World of Warcraft handled this with tailors where they got a buff to get extra drops, regardless of the initial drop, that was just cloth only. So say if the sheep you're killing drops a hoof or nothing at all for its normal roll, there is also always a 2nd roll it does to see how many crafting mats you'd get, so off of every kill you'd always get like 1 or 2 things. Still doesn't fix the problem of competition though.

    1. Let DOL/DOH harvest from mobs. Skin a dead mob or sheer a live sheep for fleece.

    2. Introduce enhanced/dynamic spawns. Kill a group of sheep and 2 more groups spawn in its place. Or simply influence spawns to a great extent by weather or time of day, in addition to the current spawns. More mobs keeps all the farmers in competition happy.

    3. At DOL/DOH milestones, give us passive pervasive traits to mob drop rates. Allow us to select from drop rate, HQ drop rate, double drops. Perhaps only one trait active at a time like how FC buff works.

The worst part is it's nearly impossible to get HQ mats from mob farming, which makes leveling the craft off leves tons harder and tons slower in general. I farmed 2 stacks of aldgoat hides(99 x2 198 total) and ended up with 4 HQ's. Mining/botany gets 15% HQ chances and you can farm up HQ much faster and more reliably.

Second that. There's always a glut of people there fighting over it, and God help you if you want some. They'll bring their friends/FC/LS buddies and probably even their grandmother to stop you if they need them. What makes them even madder if you still keep outfarming them.

    Snurble Tufts.

I spent 3 hours farming snurble tufts, and didn't even get a full stack.

The snurble tufts I got, lasted less than an hour, and I think netted me maybe a level on my weaver (should have paid more attention to that, sorry).

Anyway, yeah, I think there should be something. Maybe a purchasable scroll like those xp buffs for crafting gathering, but this one increases your drop rate. Or maybe add a slightly higher drop rate based on the number/level of your crafting classes.

I've hit a wall with most of my crafts now because I just can't stomach going out to farm for 3 hours again. I'll do it, eventually, but a little bit of something to help out on the drops would be nice

Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.

    Agree OP.
If I take down an antelope with my bow I should get a hide. I will never understand where the hide disappears off to just because its dead lol

Id be happy with decent buff to the drop rate.

Ideally Id like to see a skinning skill but I know that would be a fairly huge game re-design so ain't gonna happen.

C'mon SE please give us a hide drop buff. Either an ability or adjust the code...
