Funny thing is. When SE gets the game turned upright and running on all cylinders then the impatient and negative complainers who either didn't play the game or quit too soon will be VERY far behind the people who remained patient and positive.

Your decision: Either devote yourself to a very nice future pay-off OR do the easy thing and give up like a lot of the whiners on these and just about every other FFXIV forum.

I personally love the series. I alos love FFXIV. I have made my decision and I stand by it.
I have a question, though. What happens if it gets too far and they are unable to turn it around? The game continues to stay F2P and people don't come back, SE loses money and decides to can the whole thing? I wouldn't recommend playing to wait for it to become good... however I notice you said you like the game which is the RIGHT reason to be playing it. I'd never tell someone to play it because one day it might be good.

If you need people to tell you why you should play the game, then you shouldn't be playing the game at all.

They wont shut down Final Fantasy XIV

    Reason

It's a number in the final fantasy history you can't have final fantasy 15 without it being a FF14 they can't shut down FFXIV and just make a offline FF14 because that be the dumbest idea. For them to go on with the final fantasy name they have to fix Final fantasy XIV and gain our trust again.

The player base that say FFXIV is lame and it sucks would return and top of that if there still talking about it and still on fansite/this site then they have not 100% quit yet. Stop being a crybaby if you dislike the game give good feedback and shut up we know the game sucks atm just deal with it too they get it fix or go play other game no one making you play ffxiv.

    Give FFXIV time.

i will admit, that i dumped FFXIV for the past few months, i was busy w RL, went on vaca to thailand for a week and i got into the Rift beta, so i played w that for a bit and then i came back and restarted my character so i could feel the new game (and it is a vastly different game from launch back in Sept, but it still needs some work) and there was something about FFXIV that i cant describe that made it feel really different from Rift.

Dont get me wrong Rift is a great game (i bought it and play it in Live right now) but FFXIV, as with all FF games i have played, has some quality about them that separates it from other games. And despite FFXIV's failings (which it has) it does still have that same quality buried in there.

That would be what i told somene who asked about the game

plus the graphics r just beautiful...... going from LoL > Rift > FFXIV made my eyes water, opening cutscenes r just amazing

I'd recommend the game, and if they don't like it then that is their problem, but I enjoy it and that is all that matters
I love the graphics and the personalized character creation. I played XI, so of course I enjoy the familiarity of XIV. I love the big open spaces of Limsa and Uldah, not necessarily Black Shroud though x.x . I am a big .hack// dork so that is another reason why I love mmos.. lol. I'll defend any type of mmo simply for that reason right there. I know this game has a lot of growing to do, but I am not worried. It has amazing potential and I am sure it will be simply incredible one day! XI was very incomplete at the beginning as well, but no NA's got to see it because it was in Japan for a whole year before we even got it! That fact alone is comforting.

This would depend on my friend.

If they where a Mainstream fan, one who thought wow was the best mmo and the shining example of what a mmo should be I would tell them to stay as far away as possible from FFXIV. I would actully suggest them to try Rift because they would probably really enjoy it.

If they where a FFXI fan I would make these points.

    1) The graphics and character animations are unmatched in the mmo world
    2) The story is a typical ff storyline
    3) You have 1 character and 1 identity. You can do everything at once.
    4) The game has a focus on group play (Groups have an advantage over soloing)
    5) Although the game is horribly lacking content look at FFXI's past, if they follow in FFXI's footsteps in a year or 2 there will be more content then we will be able to handle.

Atm I cannot see suggesting this to anyone besides a FFXI fan, because chances are they will quit pretty fast in its current condition.

The fact that SE has lost an exorbitant amount of money by cutting the monthly fee for the game until it is of a quality they deem acceptable conveys just how dedicated they are to make this game great. They may have messed up, but I thought they handled it pretty gracefully.

    Why it would be enjoyable:

You can do things at your own pace. Don't feel like doing leves this reset? That's fine, you got till next reset to finish them all. No need to worry about daily resets to be on top of maximum income/SP gain possible.

Graphics are stunning. Everything, from weather effects to character shading, is absolutely beautiful.

Storyline is Final Fantasy quality. People say that it sucks? Obviously they haven't played to the higher ranks. Some of the stories are hilarious, while others are bittersweet.

Combat is... different. But then again, hitting keys 1-0 in a set rotation gets old anyways, and it's somewhat of a compromise between XI's style of timing and the frantic pace that you usually get with current MMOs. Granted, it might not be the best, but they're working on it.

I would have to ask what they like first:

    Do you like boring ?
Do you enjoy grinding the same monsters for hours on end ?
Do you like to have a cut-scene just for an npc to tell you where to go ?
Do you want to explore an empty world full of copy pasted terrain ?
Do you have fun just smashing the 1 key in every fight ?
But most of all, do you wanna level up to cap level, just to find out there is nothing to do ?

If he says yes to any of those questions, this is HIS GAME!!!

The only problem with this, is because of such high system requirements, it turns away a lot of potential players. I have a few friends that wanted to play it, either in open beta or retail and tried to get it running on their pc's and couldn't even get past the server lobby because as soon as the game tried to load it would just freeze up. Everything is beautiful, I just wish they could figure out a way to make it more accessible to more people before PS3. There's no real point in having such detail if your pc can't even run the game without you dropping a decent amount of cash into a video card/ram/processor. The rest of your assessment though is pretty spot on.
