    Damage, or deaths despite being out of circles/cones/etc?

    On bosses, or raid bosses, etc, I am having some major issues involving the red circles/lines/etc from boss mechanics. Essentially, I could be on the opposite side of the room, and still somehow take damage (this actually was the case one time, when I used my Elusive jump to jump back, then proceed running. I seem to take the damage from these abilities no matter what.

    I am thinking it may be some type of latency issue, somehow, but my connection checks out, and it does happen to others in my group, just not as often as it happens to me. Generally, I do not wait for anything to get out of the circle, I usually just book it out when I see it. Sometimes I don't take the damage, but more often than not, it just wrecks me.

    Anyone have any tips/tricks/advice on what to do here? It's really frustrating knowing that I did what I was supposed to do, and move, but still get the pointy end of the stick stabbed into my face for lots of damage, or even worse death.

    I do not have any tips for it, just throwing it out there that it happens to me as well. Only seems to happen in dungeons though, particularly during boss fights. In the open world I have not had this issue once.

    Had this particularly bad when doing Ifrit as part of main quest chain. Was moving out of fire as quickly as it appeared but still taking damage when it looked like I was well clear. I died when Ifrit was on about 2% but thankfully group got him down anyway. This is on PS3, where my upload/download speeds are far inferior to my PC.

    There is definitely a latency issue. Well for me anyway, being the UK I have to connect to the Server in Canada which is not ideal.

    What I have seen posted elsethread(s) is that the red area being visible/invisible when you're gone is not an indicator of safety. You'll get hit if you're in the red when the mob finishes casting its ability. In other words, when its cast bar hits 100%. Which doesn't always match up with the red area disappearing.

    For Elusive Jump, it might also be that the client doesn't send your new location to the server until after you've landed (for varying values of "after").

    When monster finish casting spell(there's no spell animation yet and you are still in the red zone) and when you manage to retreat before he actually make his move, You will still get damage. Because you was in spell range when he finished casting. I think that's how it work's. this is not a non target game, so you cant just dodge everything in last second. Be aware of that and act quickly. Also think about latency like Whizawk said.

    This was a problem as far back as beta phase 3, albeit much worse, and came from the servers not updating your world position often enough. They've long since increased the number of times the server updates your position, but server lag still remains a factor in dodging such abilities. I find that instead of having until the cast completes you actually have, due to varying server latency, until the cast bar reaches anywhere from 85%-95% to get out of the effect range. Even if you're out before that, continue to run further if it's possible as the more distance between you and it increases the odds the server will update your position to being outside of the effect in time.

    Though the advice offered earlier in the thread of "React faster" seems like callous, possibly snide, advice to the problem it really is your only option at the moment.

    True. I kite while attacking in dungeons and circles still hit me.

    as the guy said. at the moment, just react faster.
