- Faerie placement can save it from an early death.
- Also, can place it somewhere and cover a lot bigger distance or another line of sight, in case the tank is around a corner.

Firstly, Fairy will generally be targeted by adds as it's the major healer in the scene. Secondly, as a healer, urself should be in the safe zone or ur doing sth wrong.
So, Fairy shouldnt have problem of following you at all times...
Placing your fairy is the best idea because your fairy does not have the same max range as you do, so if you are at max range from the tank the fairy will not heal them. Second your fairy can't heal when it moves, just like you can't so if you need to run away because of a mechanic your fairy isn't healing in that time. So finding a good spot to place it can be really helpful on certain fights.

If you have to run away, during that time you should manual embrace your tank/heal target, the fairy would move into range to heal that target, and as long as you keep spamming embrace it would cause no issue. I let it heel after myself and manual cast embrace when needed.
Currently there are 3 classes with battle rez in game: WHM, SCH and SMN, and usually if there is a SMN present no healer should go resurrecting people. You also dont need a macro for mana leech: just press tab once to acquire the boss as target, cast leech, then press T to switch to its target - which is 99.99% time is the tank. That habit will be useful for you during FATE grind where its impossible to click on a tank out of your party.
@someone asking why not cure over physik: they are the same spell, given as base spells to both healing classes so that their jobs wont waste a precious cross-skill slot for such a basic heal.
Sorry, yes, I am not 50 yet. I was trying to make a guide to help lower level people.Post #1 is obviously made by someone not 50 yet.

The fact that you say, you don't need a macro for Energy Drain and it's better to press tab, Energy Drain, t vs. press one button tells me a lot though.
Uhh, well it shouldn't because I do the same thing and I'm a bit of a go-to man for speed run - no wipe AK runs.
I don't micromanage my fairy and I don't use macros. I don't have THM speed cast, because frankly - in a 8 man your summoner should be battle rezzing not you. It's a MASSIVE drain on mana and mana is everything in late game raids. In a 4 man, your DPS should not suck so much that they get hit by one of the easily dodgeable one hits.
Your attitude is a bit odd considering you have no actual experience on anything where a healer actually matters a lot.

If you're immediately burning all three energy drains instead of saving them for MP, damage (Especially on adds), Lustrate, or Sacred Soil, you fail as a SCH.
The fact that you say you should use Succor II or macro an ability like Energy Drain tells us all a lot. Finish learning and leveling the job, then try making a guide.

I agree with Allido, but I'd just like to point out that since it gets targeted by adds; it also gets targeted by boss splash AoE dmg. So placing it away from the group is a good idea. Just saves you a lot of dmg to heal.
Also, I've noticed sometimes that the faerie is extra sensitive to height different, so if you place them on a small rock close to the tank, it won't be healing them (even though it has line of sight).
